Duh. The results of a new Rasmussen poll indicate that human nature is alive and well.
A Rasmussen Reports survey conducted in mid-June showed that 17% of Americans were Very Likely to take advantage of the “Cash for Clunkers” program. Another 18% said they were Somewhat Likely to do so.
Despite the willingness of people to accept the money if it was available, 54% opposed the “Cash for Clunkers” proposal and just 35% were in favor the plan. Twelve percent (12%) were undecided.
In a similar vein, we don’t want to sell IHateTheMedia.com to Google, but if they pony up enough cash, we’ll take it.
Aw, hell, who are we kidding? We’ll swap this sucker for one of those clunkers.

I'm not surprised. Donating to a charity only nets a tax credit for blue book value. Why turn down a better offer if there's one out there?
I believe the intention is toward Americans buying more economical vehicles and for some, the plan will be a good thing. Unfortunately I suspect a large number of the first to buy could have bought their new vehicle without the government assistance..... Oh boy, free money and I save some gas too!!
most people are buying toyotas not US manufactureres because toyota has the widest selection of fuel efficient cars. So, remind me again why this is helping the US auto industry?
I don't doubt that dishonest people might try it, but one of the requirements is the car must be owned (and even insured, I believe) for one full year prior to being turned in.
In my state, the date a title is issued after an ownership change is printed clearly on it. Unless someone is purposely forging or tampering with them, there isn't any way around it, at least here.
There are numerous stories circulating about people who are buying junkers for a couple of hundred dollars so they can get a $4,500 credit. Let's celebrate American ingenuity.
