  Capitalism? Forget the fact I still can't find an honest job description for a professor in the Gender and Women’s Studies Department at Northeastern Illinois University, wth exactly do some of these "s from the article mean?

• It would have been a better and more fitting painting if Mr. Houng had painted a depiction of Obama shooting Lady Blind Justice in the back of the head because that would be far more truthful and easier for the rest of us to relate to, but he's not interested in those of us who can read...cursive.

  Just saw a photo of your piece on display in the Florida state capitol building. Of course it is your right to paint any picture you want. Apparently, I, as a tax payer in Florida, am forced to support your art by extension. That is a shame. Not only is your painting an extremely inaccurate portrayal of that tragic night to the point that it is devoid of any meaning but it is also inflammatory as the same low information people who cannot distinguish between self defense and stand your ground laws also cannot seem to grasp that it was Trayvon who attacked Zimmerman after he expressed to Rachel Jeantel on the phone that he thought Zimmerman was a "creepy ass cracker" and a "gay child molester". In other words, your martyr was a racist homophobic thug who could have just gone home rather than beat a man. That poor judgment cost him his life and ruined countless others.

  Moreover, adding Martin Luther King's image was a contrived bit of irrelevance as I am certain a man of integrity like Dr. King would be the first to lament Trayvon's death but he would not have condoned Trayvon's actions before arriving in Orlando ( drug suspension from school and stealing jewelry) nor would he have approved of Trayvon beating a smaller man into the pavement.

  Your piece serves no purpose but to agitate since Mr. Zimmerman was acquitted. He is entitled to be left alone but you throwing more gas in the flame ensures he will continue to endure death threats and his family will face continuing harassment. Clearly, you are not interested in peace or racial harmony. You are an opportunist and a hypocrite. Congratulations, though, I had never heard of you before this weekend. I'm sorry I have. Any profit or incremental fame you garner from this exhibition is blood money. The only things worse than the actual painting are the gutless cowards in Tallahassee who chose to display the piece despite no reason to given the content.

    Hello,

    I am Huong. I received your email after the unveiling of the American color mural mural at the Capitol in Tallahassee last week and I am sorry the graphic image of the painting WE ARE ALL TRAYVON MARTIN upset and evoked your condemnation toward me.
    I acknowledge the Freedom of Speech which The Constitution gives all of us equally. I accept it. However, I do regret that your actions are based on a misleading story from a reporter who did not asked me any questions directly nor understood what this painting represents. He did not walk you through the whole mural and showed only the painting. We also had a big group of students who stood with me in the Capitol to ask for Peace and Justice. This closed mind and untrue story from this reporter lead you to profile, condemn, and say terrible remarks toward me.

    I wish you will be my guest of honor to view the American Color Mural in person at my next Opening in Miami in December. Then it will be fair for you to condemn me. I have the freedom to create, speak and express myself as an artist, but you can label and profile me any way you want, and I will gladly accept it.

    Please, look over the attachments that are also provided in this email and again, I am sorry that the painting WE ALL ARE TRAYVON MARTIN upsets you, at the same token, it evokes your conscience. It is the power of the Art.

    The attachments are photos of the reveal and a transcript of an interview she gave. Below is one question and answer. The entire interview is pseudo-intellectual bull. Huong is a moron.

    Q: Many have a problem with the way that the shooting is depicted as opposed to how it actually happened, what would you say to them on this matter?

    A: If I wanted to paint the Trayvon Martin shooting I could have. I could have made it the real brutal scene, but I didn’t want to. We all know what happened. The nation is healing. I didn’t want to paint that ugly scene. That’s why Trayvon is not in it, that’s why Zimmerman is not in it. We wanted to capture the violence, because it is still going on now in every society. The image that the press accused was George Zimmerman, is actually the image of my assistant who helped paint the mural, Jesse Paz. It was our idea to have Jesse take the picture with the gun because we didn’t want to paint anybody in it. We painted our own image. That image is there to remind people that racism is happening now, happened in the past, and the person in the hood could have been you or me. That’s why there’s no image of Trayvon, so that when people look at the mirror in the mural they see themselves. It makes them think, “What if it was me?” We are all equal, why is it so hard for us to practice equality and respect? But the one image we make clear, and the only person you can identify, is Martin Luther King, Jr. He shed his life for equality and paved the way for us activists. He is my own guidance to work down the road for peace and justice.

    • What a load of bullshit. She doesn't really expect us to believe that she wanted to portray anyone other than Zim and Trayvon in that picture. The only reason she added King was because she wanted to evoke a more viceral response.

      • Bullshit. We are NOT all Trayvon. Many of us don't use drugs, rob homes, and go looking for confrontation. This painting was meant to incite violence, to deepen wounds, to make people hate. Nothing else could possibly be taken from it. It is a lie, and Huong is a liar.

• How is that mural not inciting violence? How was this piece of race baiting excrement legitimized by a state government? The artist, Huong, exercised his free speech rights and he should therefore deal with the repercussions of the abuse of those rights... Zimmerman should sue the crap out of him as well as the Florida state legislature.
