Polio was almost eradicated worldwide when Ibrahim Datti Ahmed, president of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, decided polio vaccines were a Western conspiracy to render Muslim children infertile. So ignorant Muslims stopped getting vaccinated, then they spread the disease with trips to Mecca, and polio is suddenly thriving again… although predominately in Muslim populations.

I would almost consider this a form of natural selection. If people of the Islamic faith feel the same way about gonorrhea, we might be on to something here.

Remember the fictional movie "Apocalypse Now" where Army Special Forces inoculated Vietnamese children and the next day the V.C. cut off all their arms and piled them up for the US forces to see. Fictional yes, but the message is factually correct.

Very simple. No act of kindness or consideration cannot be out done by raging hatred and TOTAL disregard for human life that the opposing party zealously promotes. These enemies, the Viet Cong and radical Muslims, they will kill, burn, destroy everything and everyone to send the message to the indigenous population that they had better not accept anything of value from "the enemy" Imperial U.S. (Infidels). In the movie, as in real life today, the radicals will kill you or cut off arms or heads to send a message. Even drug cartels have picked up the "technique".

Umm, don't chortle too deeply folks. There's a lot of folks here in the US -- many who would likely identify themselves as very conservative Christians -- who think a lot of vaccination and other public health measures are part of a Western conspiracy too.
It is true. Also a lot of these people especially the children are innocent. We really shouldn't want people to suffer due to the stupidity of others. We don't want their plagues on us. If they reject all western things no matter how beneficial and benevolent it is, it is their decision although insane and incomprehensible. However this IS insane!!!! I cannot understand this insanity at all. Now with that said as you mentioned above you are true, but those people are EXTREMELY minority and thankfully it is not something that MOST people need to worry about. I only feel bad for the children who are the ultimate victims here. But this is spreading across nations! It is just insane to me the AMOUNT of people that are doing this to themselves and their children! This is not normal that so many people are being affected like this!
I'm one of them, actually. I've written a couple columns about the unnecessary infliction of stupid vaccinations on children. I don't think most people of my generation understand how MANY vaccinations our grandchildren are getting. It's ridiculous. They start before a newborn even leaves the hospital, and many of them are not about saving lives - they're a cash cow for drug companies, pure and simple. Chicken pox vaccine? Get real. My mom purposely took me to a friend's house trying to GIVE me chicken pox (didn't work). Mumps? I was disappointed at how quickly it was over and I had to go back to school.
But polio is a life threatening scourge that a quick Google will inform anybody with reading ability was devastating and tragic for tens of millions of children. If it didn't kill them it left them disfigured and crippled. THAT's the sort of thing that deserves being vaccinated against, not chicken pox and HPV and mumps, etc.

That's for sure. But what is the likelihood and what are the risks?
.00000035% chance of dying of chicken pox without the vaccine, versus .00000000046% chance with. Now, how many children are POSSIBLY autistic? Allergic? Brain damaged? Or dead from the vaccine? That's an unknown quantity, in my opinion.
Polio is different. Hundreds of thousands of people, mostly children, were killed or (perhaps worse) crippled for life by this disease. It spread like wildfire and there was no way to protect yourself or your child. A vaccine against THIS makes sense. But a vaccine that will prevent a possibly uncomfortable week or two of skin rashes? That is not worth the risk, in my opinion.
By the way, according to the NTSB, 116 children are killed each year by being run over in their own driveways. Surely we need to do something to protect those children? We really need to require all children leaving their houses to be in bubble suits with safety helmets! If you ask the makers of bubble suits and safety helmets, that is a DARNED GOOD IDEA for a new legislation. And if they save just ONE child, it's worth it - right?
No doubt. A hangnail can be fatal. Doesn't mean I want the government mandating that I get protected from it. What your statistics fail to mention is the harm and grief from the massive doses of vaccines we are pumping into babies - 26 vaccine doses for a baby in the first year of life (in the U.S.). We acknowledge that the massive vaccine doses we gave soldiers before the Gulf War may have been the cause of Gulf War Syndrome, but we think nothing of starting a newborn on massive doses before the poor kid even gets his systems properly running! Before he has his first poop! Parents who have seen their children go from ordinary and healthy to screwed up within days of getting one of the multiple-dose vaccines know what's going on and there's mounting public pressure to stop this nonsense. Have you heard of Andrew Wakefield? He's the Brit who was supposedly discredited after questioning the safety of MMR vaccines. From what I've read what really happened is the vaccine makers mounted a massive attack on his reputation and made the Lancet retract from fear of lawsuits. Watch the efforts of the vaccine makers to mandate HPV vaccines and watch the current advertising campaign to sell chickenpox vaccines to adults (to prevent shingles). How silly. It's pure profit motive, and the more they can get the gov't to mandate the more profit they can make. Obama's pal rammed a smallpox vaccine sale to the gov't through and smallpox doesn't even exist in the human population... PLUS the gov't already has stockpiles of smallpox vaccine... PLUS Obama's pal's version has never been tested so nobody knows if it will work, or not work, or kill people.
I'm with you, JP. My personal decision point was "what is the likely cost of the disease, versus the unknowns of the vaccine"? My daughter got the polio and tetanus vaccines. She didn't need MMR and the others - she did not go to day care, we didn't go to the doctors except when absolutely necessary, and she lived in a healthy environment, with nutritious food. Low risk. But polio is such a devastating disease, I could not risk that for her.
Now though, it's almost impossible to refuse, even on religious grounds. You have to document WHICH religion you belong to, and they have to sign a form. I know this is true in DC, because when my daughter started her PhD program at GWU, she had to jump through hoops to prevent being stuck full of needles. And, I don't believe that the year AFTER she was born even has the option of waiving. It's nuts.
I agree that vaccinating everything may not be the answer. Some diseases you have to get in order to become immune when you are an adult. However there are some diseases that YOU have to be vaccinated you just HAVE to and this is just insane to me what is happening.

Well we have our AIDS/HIV problem, especially among those who espouse alternative lifestyles; (especially those who trade intravenous needles for a quick high, or those who get all kinky when they see someone of the same-sex walk by) and the Muslims will have their millions upon millions die and/or be crippled for life because they believe in some self-inflicted rumor regarding Western civilization and the efficacy of modern vaccines. Both are sad and both are ironic. Ironic in that for the queers and steers and needle poppers, a simple change of personal behavior would very likely have prevented the transmission of the virus in the first place and no, despite what you've heard about a cure, there still isn't one, just a drug regime and a chance to extend your life for several more years and for the Muslims, if they weren't such a bunch of hateful, partially civilized throwbacks in total need of conversion, they probably wouldn't be entering into this new era of metal walking supports and wheelchairs.
