New plan for “Obamahood” sounds like communism to me.  Sorry Mr. President, George Lucas already beat you to the punch. When his NIMBY neighbors blocked him adding a Lucasfilm studio on his property in Marin County, California he decided to put low-income housing in instead.

  • Obviously Quagmire's solution to dealing with the inner city ghettos, is to create more of them. It's also much easier to control the riots when the SHTF, and the freebies stop when the economy collapses.

  • There's a reason poor people don't live in rich neighborhoods. Because they can't afford to live there. Leave race at the door here because it isn't relevant. The Simpson's, my hypothetical family of four, have two good kids and both parents work several jobs to bring home 27,000 a year. Dreams of home ownership keep them working hard in hopes of getting the family out of the duplex they are renting.

    The O administration comes a long and grants them a home in the affluent suburbs where the median home value is 500,000 dollars. All is well in the Simpson family and a dream has come true for them. Better schools, less crime and a beautiful home to be proud of.

    Week one presents the problem of getting from the suburbs to town so Mom and Pop can work their various minimum wage jobs. They don't own a car and there isn't bus service into their new neighborhood. Now instead of walking 1/4 mile to the bus stop, both parents have a three mile walk just to get to the feeder line stop to the main city routes. 1.5 hours of commute is added to get to work, each way. No worries, Dad will pick up OT and buy a used car for 500 bucks. Should be able to get one in two months.

    Week two in the new home and all begins to unravel. Something called the Homeowners Assn. has sent them a letter telling them they need to mow their lawn, trim sidewalk and bushes. Being apartment dwellers, they have no lawn equipment. A mower, edger and weedeater will cost them at least 500 bucks if bought used. Dad doubles down and gets a third job to pay for them. That used car will have to wait.

    One month is and the HOA has intervened by having a paid lawn service bring the Simpson's home up to standards. Dad comes home and is amazed that someone cut the grass for them, whew that's a relief. That is until he sees the 200 dollar for the service on his front door. This is accompanied with a letter from the HOA threatening to place a lien on the home unless payment is made in full.

    Right at the one month mark all the utility bills come in. $600 for electricity! Water bill is over $200 thanks to that automatic sprinkler system that is on every morning at 4AM when Mom and Dad head out to commute to work. Meanwhile, one of the kids has an issue at school and the school needs to meet with one of the parents at 11AM. Yep, that means Mom gets to call in sick and miss most of a full day's wages. That car will have to be put off for another month or two.

    The evils of home ownership will continue to pile up. The water heater breaks, the $500 used car they finally were able to buy breaks down too. Mr. Simpson jacks up the car in the drive way and gets to work on it. He plans to spend his one day off this month fixing the car. Along comes the HOA patrol and issues him a citation for having a car on blocks in the driveway. He is told that we simply don't do that kind of stuff in this neighborhood.

    Third month in and he gets notice from the county appraisal office informing him that he will owe 8000 dollars this year for property taxes. One of the kids gets sick and needs to get to the free clinic in town (obamacare isn't quite helping them yet) and someone has to lose a half days wages to get the kid to the clinic. Mom has a heck of a time getting a sick child to walk 3 miles to the bus stop.

    I could go on and on and on. Like Dave Ramsey always says, " a home is a curse unless you can afford to own it. Murphy will move in with you and never leave." Most of the crap I take for granted as a home owner is completely alien to a renter. A free or deeply discounted house sounds great until you realize how much it actually costs to maintain one. The reason you don't own a home isn't because you're a "victim." It is because you can't afford one. Nothing else.

    • well, that's just it. you have to want it and be ready for it.

      i am on a severe budget. when i have $1K put together, it goes directly into the "shit-happens" fund, which is then used within a couple months b/c shit happens pretty much every month or so.

      this month, for example:

      rear brakes and drums for the car, which i bought new in 2003, so yes, it's paid for and needs work now & then. expect that to happen to a 10+ year old car.

      wooden fence in the back yard was knocked over by neighbor's fallen tree. this is NOT covered by homeowners' ins b/c fallen trees belong to whomever's property it now resides on. eight to ten sections of wooden fencing will cost a few hundred dollars plus that six pack of beer your friend will drink helping you install it. (actually, i am bartering video work for this assistance. nothing is free.)

      that's just this month. last month was real estate, personal property, and biz property taxes due.

      the previous month, i needed teeth cleaning and one pulled, and front brakes on my car.

      owning things costs money. few ppl think about maintaining things, and are apt to just buy new stuff when something doesn't work, esp b/c most losers don't care to keep things well-maintained by way of not manhandling them to begin with. getting all your needs met as a low-to-no income person on the other hand is pretty easy, except all that time and effort one needs to put in to get all these freebies rolling... and some folks have friends where it counts, so it really is quite magical for them.

      • Owning a house and paying for your own stuff is an eye opener. I rented for a lot longer than I needed to when I was starting out on my own. After I got married we bought a home. We bought less home than we could afford and put away as much as we could. Even so, I still remember all the stuff that went wrong and stuff I had to buy. Turns out that air conditioners break in used homes! Of course they break in the middle of summer in Houston. Ours broke before we had lived there a year. Sh^t happens, but we were living within our means and were ready to handle the curveballs. I remember having to buy garden and yard tools, mowers, weedeaters and more.
        We moved up in house 5 years later ( more than twice in sf.) and I now own this sucker outright. But all the bills, taxes and insurance are still there.

        Princess 1.0 graduated HS last week and will be the first person on my side of the family to attend college. She worked her tail off and got into a real good school, got some merit based scholarships and plans to become a lawyer. We plan to get her through without any loans. I'm not trying to brag or assume to be better than anyone else. Just posting the facts and stating that all this can be done on a lower middle class income by living within your means, investing wisely and going to work.

        • yes, that's why 0% down on 125% loan amount against a house EVEN WITH A FIXED RATE is already a LOSING PROPOSITION.

          when will they teach "do not borrow today to pay tomorrow" in school?

          well, never, i guess... i know why, too. years ago (i'm from a rough part of town) in the 70's & 80's, i knew ppl who borrowed and lived the hi-life, and were always saying stuff like, "i want to experience this now, and if i can't pay for it, someone else will have to... someone with more money, so screw them!!" and they borrowed from one source paying with another, years on end.

          they figure, some politician will come along and clean it all up, and if that doesn't happen, these idiots will just riot until they get their way.

          that's the mentality, regardless of race, religion, or anything. it's a sickness that has permeated a society that allowed it to germinate for the past 40-50 years now.

          begs the question - who is retarded? those of us who work(ed) for what we have or those who are allowed to spread their sloth and envy?

        • I know what you mean. When we bought our house, we decided to get the minimum we could, basically, making sure that even if one of us lost our job, we could still make the payments. This was a good idea, since my wife lost her job a month ago. We are still paying all the bills. It's a little tight right now, but we don't have to worry about being homeless.

          • Amazing how that fiscal responsibility works. I've been blessed to have never been laid off or fired. I got severely hosed with the 9/11 fall out and took a pay cut. That took a while to recover, but so far I've been gainfully employed all of my adult life.

  • The communist ass hats won't ever get it. When you work for something, you have pride in ownership. When it is given to you, you expect the next free gift. Look at all the housing projects. There is no pride in ownership, just more bitching about not getting everything that "they want".

    Wonder when quagmire and the wookie are going to let the fellas from the hood move into their neighborhood in Shitcago? They'll have to ask Screwy Louie and Bombing Billy if its okay to let some of the fellas and ho's move into the neighborhood. Then you have all the leftist in CA that will be bent when the servants are living in the next house over.

    • Hollywood is moving (and much of the TV programming already has moved) to ATL. That's where the action is, and anyone in the biz (including us technical peeps) are either already there or relocating soon.

      I went house-hunting in suburban ATL last fall. All i can say is Holy Sheeyat!

      I think i will base myself out of a nearby county just outside of that hellhole, if i do find something in my price range. The downtown biz district and higher income areas are fine, BTW... just the outer living areas, where apparently everyone was given affordable suburban home-living, is completely "destabilized" as far as "pride in ownership" - that thing which no one can give you because it must be earned and learned.

      How can you tell? Easy: Bars on windows and doors. No other identification needed to conclude that.

  • Years ago there was an idiot by the name of Joan Dara who was the mayor of shitcity, AKA Stockton. She and a crooked councilman by the name of Ralph White decided to do this in Stockton to spread the low income people in every neighborhood. What happened was the crime, and gangsters were all over town, It worked real well with Murders and robberies, and other violent crime in all these little "inclusive" areas...It only took a couple years, the black gangsters had their neighborhoods, the Asians Gangsters had theirs, and the Hispanic Gangsters had theirs. What happens is when some unsuspecting subject of the wrong race wanders thru these "fine" areas, they become crime victims, and each gang controls the drug trade and crime in their area...

    This is what Obama wants. The bullshit in Dallas taking over a pool, just wait till you get some "fine" folks in their lowriders living next door. The neighborhoods go to shit, and the property values drop like Hillary's approval ratings.

    Basically Obama wants to turn the entire country in to a slum....An d wait till our religion of peace starts catterwalling at 5 AM to call all the flying carpet owners in the neighborhood to pray.

    If this sound brutal, it is...and it is going to be done in the name of "fairness"..

    The rich demotards will of course NIMBY up and the rest of us, when looking at new homes will be screwed...Time to move to the country where you have space around you and no close neighbors..

    • I made my move 14 years ago and have never regretted it. It's about 80 miles to the nearest Lowe's, WalMart or Mickey D's but I don't care. Once every two or three months I run to the "big city", get what I need then get the hell out.

    They want to diversify wealthy neighborhood by forcing desegregation in "hud served" wealthy hoods. Needless, hud doesn't do jumbo loans. Wealthy buyers don't need hud loans. This is all bullshit. It's also fraud

    • San Antonio is not known for great zoning. I can show you mansions 2 Blocks from literal shacks. But even here, when the very poor move into established neighborhoods, they bring higher crime, the properties aren't cared for from both ignorance and financial limitations, the schools go to hell and in 20 years, the entire neighborhood is crap. People who bought homes in the area cannot sell them, their equity is gone, but thir taxes are still increasing. There is more to living in a good neighborhood than just plunking someone there. They need money to maintain, the kids will still be ostracized because they are different, differences in socisl and behavioural mores will still exist and homeowners will continue to lose the largest investment they will ever make.

    • It's actually a plan to get GOP strongholds turned over to the left, by planting enough people who will vote for the free shit in the areas, to turn them purple.

      • forever on-going and i don't know whether a GOP POTUS would actually reverse that... sigh, a lot of what's gone on already is pretty-much status quo now, and who will turn it around? i doubt that's even in the cards.

        meantime, i guess we'll keep seeing the wikipedia and/or city-data websites print their analysis of % white population LESS per city/town every 5 or 10 years in their stupid charts.

        the govt will want to eliminate "white flight" (and anyone with a brain-flight, hence - "brain drain") altogether eventually, so when these plans don't go well (again, cos they never do) the next step will be to require folks get a special "hall pass" to leave their residence for another location.

        it'll eventually happen, along with full-on high-tech digital surveillance. they really have no choice if the population continues getting out-of-hand at this rate. they always prefer the medicine to the preventative care. it require more money to fix things, later. ALWAYS.

        if it requires money - lawyers and politicians automatically grow in that kind of pitri dish. know what i mean?

  • The very rich will block this by denying assistance to the party. This is for upper to lower middle class neighborhoods. This is insane, but this is old. It should have nipped in the bud.

  • They aren't after rich neighborhoods. but they will certainly land with both feet on any homeowner who doesn't live in a mansion. And in case anyone gets uppity, the Supreme Court's Kelo decision gives government the power to steal their land.
