These are desperate days in union organizing halls across the fruited plain. Union membership is going down faster than Barney Frank on Fire Island.
So the union goons have come up with something new: Join us or we’ll tell everyone you’re a human rights violator.

United Auto Workers president Bob King wants to reverse the UAW’s eroding course, and one of the best ways to strengthen its position is through increased membership. The Detroit News reports that King and company are looking to bring the power of one to the nearest transplant automaker producing vehicles in the U.S. King says that he wants foreign automakers to know that the UAW has learned from past mistakes and that the rank and file is not “the evil empire.” Good to know, right? Well…
After King informed the transplants that the dark side has no power over the UAW, he then went on to tell automaker management at Toyota and Honda that efforts to block the right to fair bargaining will be branded “human rights violators.”
So there you have it. According to the geniuses at the United Auto Workers, Toyota and Honda have now joined the Nazis and the Khmer Rouge in the ranks of human rights violators.
Far be it from us to doubt the wisdom of the UAW, but we think this one’s going to be tougher to sell than a Prius without a tax credit.

China has unions. But in China -instead of the unions getting guys elected that in turn give companies to the unions- the government just owns owns the unions out right. Give it a couple of years, we'll have the same exact system here if Dear Leader gets his way.

So they've finally taken a page from Jesse Jackson's playbook and started with the smear tactic. It's worked wonderfully (and financially) well for the good Reverend, but I'm curious as to the 'kinder, gentler' unions...no more knee-cappin'? No more baton beat downs? What a bunch of lazy candy asses!

Whiskey... Even in the best of economic times there are plenty of lay-abouts and un-employed union members hanging out at the halls 'waiting for a job'. The reason for this surplus of union members is because the unions have always padded their ranks with twice as many members than the job market will support... hey! it's a great racket... charge the membership dues, collect their money, and then who gives a rat's @ss whether they work or not... it's one of the oldest union money grabbing scams in the book.
I never could figure out why anyone would pay someone else to tell them they had the right to work or not. If I was making $50K per year why would I want to go on strike because some goombah said I should be making more? $50K a year suits me just fine, I like my job, so what is the problem? And that, my friend, is why I never worked on a union job.
I negotiated my own contracts, made a good living building dams, highways and bridges all over the country, and retired before I turned 50. I took care of myself instead of letting some union thug with clean fingernails, wearing a $500 dollar suit, tell me how to take care of my family.
If only that were true for all sectors of business Whiskey... Unfortunately though for some of us, our sector of business has been totally swallowed up by the unions and if we want to work, we're subject to their monopoly on the job market. And the Goomba's aren't trying to get the common laborer more income, they're trying to charge the company a higher finders fee for providing the labor... the labor hasn't enjoyed a cost of living increase since the 1970's... all that money the company spends finds it's way into the union coffers by way of dues, working dues, mandatory political action fund donations, mandatory union defense fund contributions, etc. etc. etc.
I know plenty of my so called 'union brothers' that can barely afford to live in a flop house while all the union bosses live in mansions, have armored limos, bodyguards, and go to $50,000.00 a plate dumocrat fund raising dinners.
Move west then buddy, just move west. Out here we may not be getting by any better than where you live but at least we can make a living on our own, without having to pay anyone for the priviledge to work. If you know how to live within your income you can do pretty well in the southwest on $15 per hour. And you don't have to give any of it to somebody else who tells you whether you can work or not! We raised 6 children on a lot less than that, so can anyone else if they want to bad enough.
Whiskey, it wouldn't matter where I move if I want to continue my career... SIU has managed to absorb just about every US Merchant Fleet contract in existence... About the only hold out is small vessel companies in the Gulf of Mexico.
They're probably not union members in the pic but non-union people temporarily employed by the union to picket for them. No joke. Unions do pay other people to picket for them. ...when asked if the temporary picketers are union and if they are making a good wage, etc, the union people tend to become really quiet for some reason.

My, that doesn't sound very civil, does it, someone alert MSNBC. But whose asses is the UAW kicking? a) The auto companies? b) The auto buying public? c) The taxpayers? d) All of them?
The correct answer is "d". Yep, all three are getting a UAW asskicking.
As a twenty year veteran of labor union membership, I say unions should be abolished.
Public sector unions should not exist. But if a private company feels it can make things work & be a union shop, go for it.
In-house unions are technically not unions, but rather 'employee organizations' akin to guilds. I'm talking about the big time AFL-CIO SIUNA outfits that exist solely to skim money off the labor force and advance their socialist political agendas, that should be abolished.
Are they even constitutional? I wonder about that.
The UAW should organize their fellow communists in China, they have lots of workers over there thanks to the UAW....
My "Spidey Sense" tells me that there are going to be no more foreign assembly plants opened in the USA.
The unions and Chairman Obama are leading us into a glorious future komrades, glorious.
