What crap. Arabic language. If there wasn't a drive for the global caliphate making it obvious why this would be the language they want to push, it wouldn't be such a joke!
I'd personally like to see children learn the ancient language of Assembler. While not binary machine code, it is quick to process. Just above the foundation of all potential digital processing. Learning a language that can control machines that control all the other machines, that sounds smart. Learning the language that mohammy insisted was the only one allah would allow in his global caliphate? No.
Perhaps ancient was inaccurate. Antiquated is more apt.
If it's an ancient one - how about Latin?
It's used by scientists to name things, so it's smart.

It's much easier to brainwash children if their parents don't know what language they are speaking.
Mandarin should be the mandatory language in the USA. Hardly any schools seem to teach it extensively and they really should because the business people that Americans deal with are usually Taiwanese, Cantonese, or Chinese and all of those speak it. It would give way more opportunities than Spanish or anything else.

However I totally agree that English should be primary. It doesn't make sense that people are failing English and yet they're dumping more money into languages like... Arabic?
I tried to talk my youngest into private tutoring, immersion one summer(about 10 years ago), her mom vetoed it mainly because it was my idea, wish I had tried harder. At least she's had about 6 yrs of Spanish.

Aside from Mandarin, I would probably suggest the next big language to be Hindi, the official language of India.
Americans always say that all customer service for the US comes from India and it's impossible to understand them. This is probably because English is one of the two primary languages of India, and everyone knows it. Imagine if you could speak to them in their own dialect. The growing Indian economy is expected to be a strong contender in the global market and Americans could seriously profit off the unique skill of knowing their native language.
Arabic? There's no silk road any more, so as soon as the oil goes away hardly anyone will care. Besides, how do you corporately compete with them when they set their own prices and they won't respect you one bit even if you do speak Arabic?
Chinese on the other hand are very respectful of any foreigner who speaks their language and is polite to them.
The reason for not being able to understand the customer service from India is the accent, speed at which they speak, and inflections. Plus my hearing loss from decades of working in noisy occupations.
Yes, but you might need to have your decedents learn it as the USA becomes more secular and loses the Christian work ethic to become more and more a consumer economy. As China becomes more secular and loses the Buddhist work ethic to become more and more a consumer economy. The Hindus might be the most prosperous country, with all those skilled workers willing to labor day and night for a pittance like Americans and Chinese once had.
They'll happily save their cows from the hungry secularists by feeding them to the cows. That solves a lot of their Hindu ethical issues.
That's French to me. Where's Olivia to translate? I took two years of French in high school, but it didn't take. Seriously though, is that Chinese? I've always thought that Chinese looked like an impossible language to learn, for it seems like you'd have to be a bit of an artist just to write.

在美國, 國語應該是必要學習的語言. 沒有一所美國學校會密集做中文教學, 他們應該了解到常常和美國生意人來往的大部分是說國語的台灣人, 廣東人或中國人. 也因為不熟悉國語, 大部分的生意機會都讓給西班牙人或其他會說國語的外國人了.

Google is actually a pretty bad translator for Mandarin.
It's the best out there I believe, but still simply terrible with the grammar.
We would also usually just type out "Google" in English since everyone would recognize the name.
It's not terribly accurate on other languages either.
Its gets better and better.. its FREE.. it can give me the gist for more languages than any human I know. I give the future of machine translation a thumbs up.
Right the gist of it, but for now it still losses the true subject on over half of the translations it does.
I didn't say not to use it, and I'm aware that it's free. I'm just saying it's terrible. If someone asks a question it usually will translate it as a statement, or a statement saying the reverse of what you actually mean.
It's a good way to totally misunderstand the actual message and start an argument. Plus if you try and tell someone something in Chinese using Google translate they probably won't understand you, so just don't. It's even worse from our prospective... You might end up telling someone you want to rape a kitten.
It's a common story that young students who know Mandarin will go into restaurants and ask for dumplings, but in fact they ask to sleep on the table, or with the waitress. Yet these people are actually using the right words, just not the right way.

I should learn a little Arabic myself, seriously. At the Eastern Orthodox church I attend, most of the Liturgy is in English, but a few parts of the prayers are in Arabic, and sometimes the Gospel is read in both Arabic & English.
