New York Times loses $40million in 2011

New York Times loses $40million in 2011. “The company’s loss was blamed on the terminal decline in print advertising.” Not to mention the terminal decline in the quality of their “product”. Maybe Obama can give them a subsidy to make solar panels – they already seem to have the necessary skills (i.e. the ability to blow enormous amounts of money quickly.)

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • Happy belated New Year NYT. And may 2012 see you enjoy all the success of last year and then some.

  • I hope they can live up to their true liberal business potential and loose at least double that this year. Can't wait till the plug gets pulled and they go down the drain.

  • I tried to subscribe to The Times. They took the order charged my accountm, then never sent me the first copy. I eventually got my money returned but if this is how they treat their customers, combined with the worthlessness of the paper, no wonder they are losing money.

  • Hopefully, the "Grey Lady" will soon be the "Grey Ghost", right now it's just expensive fish wrap. The NYT keeps losing money because most people understand it's a paper and ink version of MSNBC, not worth reading if you're looking for serious, objective news and analysis.

Happiness is Krugman, MoDo and Friedman on the unemployment line.

    • There you go again. It is now considered cruelty to fish to wrap them in the NY Times, so stop suggesting it.
