In the midst of a deteriorating advertising climate, The NY Times plans to eliminate up to 20 newsroom positions and seek additional savings in the business units, the company said Thursday. Surely, true progressives like Krugman and/or Friedman will volunteer to proffer their baloney wisdom for nothing so that the 20 proles can keep their jobs. It’s not like either of them need the money. Tax the rich!

I bet their pay to play is costing readers. I don't read any paper that wants to charge me. The London Times did this, I stopped reading. NYT did it, I stopped reading them except if you get a link from Google News and click on it, the paper lets you in and you can read the whole thing if you like.
I tried to subscribe to the New York times weekends for a couple of months. They deducted the payment I provided from my bank account, but I never received even 1 paper. After 3 months, i cancelled and went in to refund mode. Took a whille, but I got my money back.
The businesses that advertise in the Times are high-end stores like Bloomingdales and Bergdoff (Sam's Discount store probably can't afford to and none of their customers read the paper anyway.) Who shops at those stores? Wealthy people. Who, if they have any brains, are going to be leaving town or at least laying low as long as the OWS crowd wants to hang them from light poles? Wealthy people. So then what are the odds the NY Dinosaur Times advertising revenue is going to get better in the near future? Probably low. All the "journalists" there building these idiots up may actually wind up cutting their own throats.
NYT is losing money? Why don't they stimulate themselves and start spending like a drunken sailor?
Ummm, I think only a drunken sailor would continue to pay the salaries of the likes of Friedman and Krugman. I’d like to see the entire editorial board forgo all their salaries and work for $1.00 a year – until the NY Times is once again turning a profit (of course, Hell will have Air Conditioning by that time). Put your money where your mouth is, NY Times!
Why do you think the NYSlimes is faling like a cartoon safe? They spend too much on a bad product with a buisness model that won't exist in a few years, & with because their product suck, people are going elsewhere for news. As far as left leaning news goes, the future is the HuffPost. The NYSlimes will be gone in my lifetime.
