NFL Playoffs Open Thread

NFL Playoffs Open Thread. We’ll start if off by saying just wow to Seattle’s win over Green Bay. 15 minutes ago we’d have bet the Packers had it in the bag. Great comeback Seahawks! So whose going to win tonight? Colts or Patriots?

  • Patriots showed again they are the premier team of the NFL. That was a good Colts team but you couldn't tell last night. They had no answers for Blount or Edelman despite knowing those two were going to get the ball.

    • I thought both New England and Seattle sent messages yesterday. New England obviously by winning 45-7, but Seattle, too, by making it clear that even when they're buried ten feet down with a wooden stake through their heart, you can't count on them being dead. That has to be a little bit scary when you're about to play them in the Super Bowl.

  • I was in full grumbling give-up mode when the Hawks finally went into warp drive.

    Incredible!

One little point maybe no one saw: Russell Wilson had a prayer circle after the game and one of the Green Bay players was in it. I thought that was very cool.

  • Late in the first half I texted my niece in Seattle with "Ha ha you suck" or something like that. I wish I could get that text back.

I've been telling everybody who would listen for three weeks now that Green Bay blew their whole season when they played Rodgers against Detroit. I knew it as soon as he started the game. They didn't need to beat Detroit to get into the playoffs - they should have sat Rodgers and let him heal. It's the trainer's fault for letting it happen. You cannot screw around with a torn calf muscle. I've had one, I watched Isaiah Thomas suffer through one years ago, and it's always the same: you feel like it's okay, you walk around feeling cool, you tell the coach, "Yeah, I'm good, put me in the game!" but the second you try to run you turn into an elk who's been hamstrung by a wolf pack. And then once you aggravate it you're back on a 2 to 3-week timetable before it's healed. The only cure is to get off it and stay off it. Second week you start walking on it. Third week maybe you'll be able to run again. Maybe.
