No soup for you

No soup for you! A deaf mom in Virginia got a terse note from her son’s teacher saying home-packed lunches are not allowed without a doctor’s note. When the world of Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act collides with the world of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” anti-obesity theories, it creates a freak wave of government oppression.

  • My biggest question is where is ACLU? Really, as I watch our Constitutional rights gets flushed down the drain, I see few people out there standing up for them. Isn't that what they are supposed to do?

    • I workd for the local chapter ofACLU fpr a (very) short whie. They did some serious picking and choosing as to what they would tackle, and since the office was made up of about 5 people who all worked together and were buddies, etc, a lot of cases got flushed. Especially if the complainents were black or white. The office was 100% Hispanic.

  • Don't know where to put it, wayyy off topic, but! if I were a special teams coach (or a head coach & could fire somebodies ass) especially the NFL, you DO. NOT. BLOCK. in the back on punts! Dumbest bs, I can't stand it! Are you freaking stupid or what?! Get caught everytime...Urinates me off... Thanks for your time.

    • Here's my thing: I know some players whose hands I want to tape into clubs, 'cause if I hear ONE MORE TIME "That touchdown (or first down) is being called back for a holding penalty" I'm going to go berserk!

How is a pro player who gets a ga-zillion dollars a game so stupid that he grabs a fistful of somebody like it's his first game ever?

      Idiots.

    • Like the commercials showing how kids should become certified that they have completed training in "safe tackling" called heads up. WHat they seem to forget is that one cannot fall on one's forarms and still hold on to the ball and that most head injuries come early in the tackle when helmets hit. The player can be unconcious by the time he is supposed to hit the ground. That is all.

  • Just a cheerful off the wall re nothing at all Sunday a.m. thought; how long til we get an ipso facto "royal fiat" that 25-30 hours is now full time?

    • Someone I know told me that at her job, she gets medical, but if she works over 29 hours, there is some kind of thing in Obamacare that costs the employer more, so she can't get more than 29 hours.

      • Damn, makes me long for the "good ol' days" when my boss was yelling at me not to go over 40....of course that was a long time ago. About 4 years to be exact.

        • I used to get that. I worked fulltime as a "pool" nurse, and it screwed up the computer if I hit 40 hours. As a pool nurse I was considered part time, no matter how many hours I worked.

  • Unbelievable. So they gonna be serving kosher? What about kids who are Eastern Orthodox and still observe fasting on Fridays? Just absurd.

      • Soylent green is Halal, Kosher, etc. and government approved. Ultimately this will be what's served.

        • Soylent green is made frm people. Animal. So not vegetarian, nor vegan. And since the people were not killed according to kosher and halal standards, it doesn't meet any of thsoe requirements either. According to the note, religious preference does not meet the criteria for a home packed lunch. Neither do any of the above. So what happens when a vegan libtard finds out their kid ate jell o at lunch?

          • True SA_Rose, but if our control-freak Borg-based WH made it a policy goal and wanted you to eat it, they would simply "deem" it Halal and Kosher. There would be flattering articles in Cosmo about the benefits of Soylent Green for women. Public Service announcements on TV touting the healthy nature of the government-approved green victuals. Hollyweird stars would croon about the benefits of Solyent Green. Oh, and they would not call it meat, or an animal-based product, but make up some non-descript pseudo-name that would hide the product's actual nature.

  • Now, now, they are just following the example set by that fat assed bloated whale of a Wookie in the Spite House.

  • Of course. It's a note sent from a school, so they have no idea what an apostrophe is.

    "...a physicians note..."

Well, now I'm confused, since I don't know if they intended an apostrophe to go before the S or after the S. Do there need to be several physicians involved?

      • Maybe, since ebonics went so well, they've moved on to "webonics," which is the notion of saying that the internet culture has created its own language. Of course, the first thing to know about webonics is that the apostrophe is whatever you want it to be.

        • Unfortunately linguistical evolution tends to fall upon the path of error. When mistakes are made within languages, they tend to save the brain some amount of work. I SAW THIS SHIT ON TV!! (And i read some...)

Because certain misuse of language tends to be easier on a brain, those misuses that actually communicate something to other brains will tend to survive in the lexicon & syntax.

This can be frustrating to those who bothered to learn sophisticated linguistical rules. I have mostly given up on this particular fight, especially since my kids and their friends all seem to be participating in the evolution of a whole new English (and don't forget they interact with potentially millions of non-native English speakers across the interwebs)

I get downvoted on reddit a lot for this observation. Lots of pedantics exist there, even in the young kids. But its a losing battle.

          • Even your use of the word "sophisticated" is incorrect. We all use it the way you did but is isn't right. The root is sophistry.

          • sophisticated to indicate complexity is incorrect? And relates to sophistry (which i think of as deceiving...)..?

Very interesting.. so in the past, someone buried someone else in complex bullshit to win an argument--i.e. engaged in sophistry--and that contributed to an adjective form sophisticated, which has long since shed a critical piece of its meaning (i.e. the deceiving bit)

        • My two cents: :-)

          “…a physicians note…”

Since the indefinite article "a" and the singular noun "note" were used, I think the adjective "physicians" is intended to be used as a singular possessive; so my vote is on "physician's," or, "...a physician's note..." However, I do live in fly over country, so I could be wrong.

Oh and BTW, I'm all for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, so the school board and the cafeteria can all go to hell!

          • Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein and healthy fats. There is no reason kids shouldn't eat it. And for the vegans in the crowd, it is totally meat/meat product free.

          • at private preschools my kids went too, all peanut products were verboten.. allergy mania. I guess that can be bad, but i've never personally witnessed it. Any food brought in had to be approved through some protocol

          • It seems funny that when I was in school, nobody had ever heard of a peanut allergy. Personally, I think most food allergies are just people's attempt to stand out in a crowd, and are complete nonsense.

          • True in some cases. In some cases, they aren't true allergies, such as lactose intolerance and celiac disease. But believe me, real allergies do exist. I have seen kids reacting to peanut exposure and it ain't pretty. Back in the mid 90's the Medical Director for Aetna Health Plans lost his son to a peanut allergy. He wasunknowingly exposed, and died before emergency assistance arrived. And there are cross over allergies. If you're allergic to peanuts, you may react to other nuts. I suspect some of the problem is that our immune systems are being bombarded daily with such an increase in various allergens and toxins, that they get screwed up and start reacting to anything. Of course, GMO foods may have a part in this, as well as the multiple pesticides and toxins used to produce our food.

          • Never made sense to me that being allergic to peanuts would cross over to being allergic to other nuts. Peanuts are legumes and nuts are nuts. It's like they're allergic to an accidental English language naming mistake. If Apple had named iPods "iNuts" would they be allergic to those, too? Makes me wonder if the crossover happens in other languages that identify peanuts with an accurate name (maybe every language calls them peanuts).

Anyway, my cousin is also highly allergic to nuts, so there you are. Peanuts and nuts, a mystery for the ages.

(Maybe it's Planters' fault for throwing them all in the same can.)

          • The are called ground nuts elsewhere. Cashews are not nuts either, but I guess the protein aim larities cause the cross allergies. Happens with walnuts, hazelnuts, etc. Peanuts are just omnipresent.

          • I read a scientific article that made exactly that point - that the peanut allergy epidemic is mostly mental. Interestingly, I have a cousin (in his 70s now) with a genuine peanut allergy. He goes into instantaneous shock if exposed, nearly died a few times in his life, carries a syringe wherever he goes, and when he was a kid my aunt never expected other children in his school to stop eating peanut butter sandwiches. Wouldn't even have occurred to her.

          • I LOVE peanut butter and jelly! I'm a little weird, I like chunky peanut butter on rye bread, and I add pretzels or Fritos to the sandwich for added crunch and salty flavor. Been doing that for over 45 years.

  • Why say please? Here's a bettter note for the commisars at this school.

It is not permitted to bring food into the gulag. Only state approved rations can be consumed. Any violation is punishable by death.

  • Time for EVERY parent at that school, and any other that prescribes to this Progressive BS, to get a "doctor's note" and pack their kids' lunches!
