everything is a matter of time and how much revenue is available regarding a certain thing. as revenue goes down in some areas, it goes up in other areas.
ie: sales tax is one example. since the internet is huge for shoppers, i guess one could expect revenues to be lower due to non-compliance in paying one's sales taxes when purchasing over the internet. how many actually report their purchases and send in the tax money every year to the IRS?
i am not advocating anything, just saying. i mean, cable TV used to cost $20/month at one time. EZ Pass used to be an easy way to get thru toll booths at one time, as well.
matter of time that the rationale for something - anything - can be used.
we'll have to consider ourselves lucky if speeding tickets aren't sent out for every infraction in the past going back years. one never knows...
I don;t think I have a problem with this. Read the story. For one thing, they don;t issue actual tickets, and where it is done, its only done in the toll plaza itself to watch for the idiots who go blasting through at full speed instead of slowing down to 20 or 30 like you're supposed to. And if you dont like it -- dont use EZ Pass.
Slippery slope. Next they'll start issuing tickets, then they'll start monitoring your speed between toll plazas and issuing speeding tickets.
When I lived in NJ and had EZ Pass, we were thinking along the same lines. When you get your monthly statement, it shows you what time you went through each toll plaza. If they wanted to nail you, they have the technology.
If they put tracking devices in all cars, they will be able to tag you for speeding at will by satellite, & you know that this WILL happen. There are politicians & law enforcement types who want that power.
I agree with PD. Most toll booths I've been through are a traffic funnel. Some lanes are closed, some open and those without the EZ pass are looking down digging for change before they get there. Then there's the chaos on the other side with people changing lanes, accelerating and putting away their receipts and change. Add toll workers weaving in and out to un jam change receivers. Now add the EZ tag driver blowing through at 90 MPH and you've creeated a recipe for disaster.
If you don't like the fact that they have a speed gun setup at the tollbooths, don't use the toll roads. They aren't using the tag itself to determine your speed. If they wanted to do that , they could time your elapsed travel time between tollbooths and nail you for speeding between booths!
Well, in Florida, they've eliminated all the cash toll lanes. If you don't have Sun Pass, you will be sent a bill in the mail, and the Toll By Plate costs more than the Sun Pass rates. Therefore, there are no more funnels for the toll lanes, they have just put gantries over the highways with the transponder sensors and cameras, no Sun Pass transponder, they snap your plate and mail you the bill, just like the red light cameras. Speeding tickets in the mail is the next step.
