NSA memo pushed to ‘rethink’ 4th Amendment. This is what the Republicans and Democrats alike think of us. Both sides want to shred the Constitution. Both sides want to eliminate the Bill of Rights so they can control everyone and everything by fiat instead of law.

We should not need the revelation of a memo to know that certain (read: many/most) elements in the govt would like to ignore if not outright eliminate the Bill of Rights.
Benjamin Franklin did not say "a republic, if you can keep it" because he was prescient, somehow seeing into the future and seeing specific events that we now see come to pass. He said it, and the Bill of Rights was insisted on by Jefferson, Madison, et al, because they understood the govt animal, and how he is hard-wired.
What we are seeing now, and the degeneration of liberty that we have seen throughout our lives and the existence of the Republic is the result of that hard-wiring, and is nothing new in principle. The only thing new about it in terms of world history is that it was never before applied to a country such as the USA, and that is only because such a country never existed before. Liberty is not taken away from people who never had it in the first place. Which includes most of the people who are alive or have ever lived.
We must understand and never forget - suppression of liberty is what govt does. They can not stop or hold that desire in check any more than a lion can stop killing antelopes. And going into govt is what certain people do - specifically those who have a desire to run the lives of others, and most important, gain wealth without actually producing something of value to others, i.e., take it by force. They all do it, and all who desire to go into "public service" (a piece of Orwellian "newspeak" if there ever was one), will do it regardless of what they say. Some will do it fast, others will do it slower.
A free country is not status quo. It can not exist while we are off doing whatever we do, or watching tv. Only a free people, ever vigilant and forever resisting the suppression of liberty, can make a free country a lasting entity.
unfortunately I think this is a case of realizing how high the cliff is once you've gone over the edge and begin to feel the gravitational gradient.

This should be a wake up call to both those on the left and right. When those who want more power, it should be the first warning that they shouldn't have it.
With more information coming forth, about just what the NSA has been up to. It's time that they (NSA) answer for what they have been doing.
Can someone clarify for me why we even HAVE an NSA? The CIA investigates threats from outside our borders, the FBI works on stuff within our bordes, plus anything considered US property. The military is suppose to provide the punch to maintain our safety, with the National guard (theoretically) protecting the homeland when the regular army is occupied elsewhere. So why the NSA? All of its suppoed reasons for existance don't exist. That would bea HUGE cost savings to elininate the NSA.
Now, now, we all know that the NSA dosen't want something they consider trivial, like the Constitution to get in the way of a good police state.
What disturbs me is all the talk in Congress, the White House, the federal bureaucracy and some of the MSM that the Constitution is outdated or irrelevant. This is dangerous talk and we have to react strongly.

This is the exact rationale Wilson and the other early 20th century progressives used to ignore the Constitution. According to them technology and the new realities of 1913 America rendered the Constitution outdated and out of touch. We've completed the full circle.
