NY Times’ Kristoff: Utility customers require auxiliary generators because of tax cuts for the rich. “Half-a-century of tax cuts focused on the wealthiest Americans leave us with third-rate public services, leading the wealthy to develop inefficient private workarounds.” Ummm, most electric utilities are private companies and NOT financed by tax money so this argument is flat out wrong. Maybe tax cuts for the rich are also responsible for the declining intellectual level of newspaper pundits too, eh?

Kristoff is not ashamed to display abysmal ignorance to anybody/everybody.
The rich don't invest capital into the infrastructure of business communities that corporations and businesses are abandoning.

I have a generator that I can fire up whenever I don't have power available, for whatever reason. It doesn't fire up automatically, I have to get up off my butt, walk over to the panel, and push the button. And trust me, I'm not wealthy.
Push the button? Wow! You must be one of those privileged rich people. I have to pull a starter cord on my generator.

You are right, if electric companies were government owned, you would be paying about $5 a KW hour for electric instead of $0.15.
BTW, those "inefficient private workarounds" are generally propane powered backup generators that automatically power up the entire house, so "inefficient" doesn't really accurately describe them.
Kristoff should try doing a little something called research before he opens his mouth and removes all doubt as to his stupidity.

The NYT also has its own on-site electrical generator, but apparently it's hidden in the basement so the editorial staff doesn't know about it. Either that, or they are too lazy to check.
