Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages.   • I think Bloomberg's crddibility and power has been badly damaged by "Superstorm Sandy". The man who ordered New Yorkers not to smoke, not to eat transfats, not to drink Big Gulps and not to own guns has been esposed as an Il Duce wannnabe who isn't competent in dealing with a real crisis.

    • Moreover, as an hysterical awarmist, who believes that the seas are rising dangerously—according to his gullible acceptance of the pseudo-scientific conjecture of AGW—because of “climate change”, he surely should have planned for flooding by, inter alia, (1) ensuring well-protected power cables (2) flood-proofing subways and (3) protecting low-level areas with barriers and dykes. That’s if he really believed the awarmist guff he spouts, of course.
      He must have had ample time, once the storm was reported, to arrange stores of food and bottled water, blankets, generators, etc., but he should have expected a storm long ago because of the shrill predictions of increased hurricanes and heat-waves and suchlike by fat-cat Al Gore and crazy Bill McKibben.

      • i can't imagine there being enough dykes in America, let alone NYC to be an effective barrier to flooding. even if they were BULL dykes. if there are that many in the alleys and gutters and spiritual wastelands then why is it so difficult for them to get fagomony passed?

  • I see why the East Coast is so heavily democrat. There is a huge percentage of people that are completely incapable of taking care of their families or even themselves if the government is not instantly coming to their rescue in case of any problem. Any moron knows that the government is too big and too bureaucratic with too much self imposed red tape to handle the most minor calamity. The storm's landfall was pretty accurately predicted days before yet these idiots were too inept to even fill a few jugs with water before the storm hit. I'm sure they thought nanny government would be instantly at their doorstep acting as servants for these entitled dipshits.

    • From the mouths of babes department. One child said her parents decided to ride it out and she was all "If its a mandatory evacuation, why aren't we leaving?" She lookes to be about 11 or 12. Now in a shelter.

    • There's a lot of truth in what you say. Right after the storm the NY Times proclaimed that Sandy "proved" a big govenment was necessary for dealing with the crisis. Those words have since proven hollow.

      But the failure of the govenment has exposed the failure of the citizens to take necessary steps to protect themselves and their property.

  • Bush would have gotten them food/water by now. And he was not even the most smartest man in the room.

    • But Obama got out of his Heio and had photo ops with the people so he is muuuuuch better than bush, who only flew over an area in which nothing could land.

  • It's a catch-22. They elect overreaching officials and decide to ignore orders then blame them...when adults didn't think ahead to get even drinking water how do you pity them?

  • I give Bloomie a break on this one. All that stuff belongs to the company putting on the race, not NYC. Seems they should have been contacted about donating it to NYC.

    • I have no pity for Bloomtard, he was fully intent on running the marathon for the $300+ million dollars, and didn't back down until the public outcry got too much.

      • You are certainly right there! He was in it for the green all along, but like I said the other day, he see's himself slipping in his popularity polls so he had to PR himself. It's nothing more than damage control. I'm so cynical when it comes to the "rich and powerful" types like Bloomturd.

    • No, I don't think so...Bloomie was the one who diverted the generators (intended for the people) to the marathon in the first place. He's a soybean through and through.
