  • That was the old days of "Beat and Release"...Keep the criminals in line and you got some respect. That was before I started....I still think that is a valid way to police....

    • I am kind of the unofficial neighborhood watch guy here at the lake, I get along well with the Sheriff and deputies, which is all the law we have in this county. When we have had discussions about it they all tell me the same thing. They have to arrest the same fools on a regular basis, drunk, domestic violence, drugs, the same fools for the same crime over and over again. And the court system will not, or cannot, do anything with them. A little county time then right back on the street again.

      I can't imagine how it would be for a big city cop like you but I can say these guys get very frustrated. They can tell you almost to the day when so and so will get arrested again, he has been out of jail long enough to start his same old shit again. It has to be maddening and maybe, in some cases, the "good old days" of police work need to be brought back. A public ass whipping has to be better than running the same fools through the system time after time.

• I swear, cops can't win for losing. No matter what they do, they are in the wrong, and when they get killed protecting thelaw abiding people in the population, no one gives a crap. Locally we have an ongoing fight about the city waning to limitpay and benefits for . Cops and firemen. Claim they can'take so much of t he budget for them. Yet thi s month we are voting to allow sizable increases in the pay for city coucilpersons. How can they ask for that if we can't bance the budget now? Oh, and we have t he. Highest pais city manager on earth. What's wrong with pictture?

  • What your describing happens everywhere. City managers are notorious for getting overpaid and leaving with a fat pension. And the running joke is they only hire ones that have been fired several times elsewhere or leave just before they get fired.

    I understand how people feel about pay for cops. But at the same time who knows when and where your going to get hurt or killed like this young man. Trust me, Kalifornia is full of radical, batshit crazy thugs who think killing a cop is a resume enhancer.

    My only concern is for my family, if they are taken care of, then whatever comes in the line of duty is fine. I made the choice for this job, and like a lot of others did it for the right reasons. There are literally thousands of cops like me who never get complaints, never get sued, never get arrested for doing something stupid. But I fear that doesn't matter any more. One arrest of the wrong person and you are classified as a racist or worse.

    The nature of the beat, it is cynical. When I started people wanted more cops, every generation or so, you get the loudmouth, shit fer brains protesters who's sole goal in life is to screw with cops. They have nothing else to do. and they are egged on by liberal idiots. It's a bully thing and childish, but that is part of what we have to put up with.

    Plus like any other profession, you get idiots who should have never been cops to begin with, but lower hiring standards have guaranteed will will have our quote of shitheads in uniform.

    And politicians who claim police are out of control should take a real deep look in the mirror. Notice how many more have been arrested or had to resign in the last few years. They believe they are above the law, and our current administration encourages that. Politicians, are and always have been more more worthless than a hooker at a deserted naval base. They come and go, each one thinking they are a legend, and feel compelled, when riots like this happen, to run some crazy ass new law through to prove they are caring and concerned. Politicians are only caring and concerned about getting their stupid ass re-elected.

      Seriously hoss, I couldn't do your job. I don't have the patience nor the temperament for police work. The first time some smartass gave me lip over a simple traffic ticket I would get sued for reaching through the window and slapping the shit out of him to get his attention. No way could I do what you do and I applaud you for being able to.

      If I remember right I invited you to come to the lake when you get tired of all the bullshit. The offer still stands. The eastern plains of New Mexico, in a county with less than 2,000 people, a good fishing hole only 5 minutes from my front door, I couldn't have it any better. And, if you want the job, the local sheriffs department is always looking for qualified cops with some smarts and experience. They may not pay what you are used to but what the hell, you wouldn't have to do much either! It's pretty quiet around here, which is why I live here.

      • Well I did retire, but I got a job offer here for a while yet to spread around my experience to some new guys on a smaller department in a different retirement system. A couple more years I am vested in that system and I am done....Then I will be looking for a fishing hole, a beer and a place where nobody bothers you and if a liberal disappears in the wilderness, no one cares.. :)

        • HAHAHA...The fishing hole is 5 minutes away, I always have a cold been in the box and there ain't very many liberals around here. They don't thrive very well in a community where folks believe in God and guns and working for a living.

• I read where the shitbag that did this (I dont want to call him a thug, that would be racccciss) has the usual endless rap sheet. Common sense says that for every time he has been busted, he has gotten away with 50 to 100. Yet he is still walking the streets.
  If these POS start shooting a few judges or politicians, maybe there will be some consequences. It would be a win win. The shitbag finally gets put away, and there is one less bribe hustling corrupt scumbag in the world.
