I know I had to take that oath a couple of times. I do have a problem with it. People come here and wish to be a US Citizen and go through the legal means to be one. Great. Now take the same oath that is administered to LEOs and US Military personnel. Otherwise stay right where you are.
I'd settle for all immigrants to take this particular oath *after going through the legal process*!!!!!!!
Who is responsible for the oath? Who is allowed to change it? Has it ever been changed before? I would like to know more.
Those are good question. Like most things it should be Congress right? But like pretty much MOST things under the Obama administration that didn't happen.
That was what I was thinking. Does the Executive branch have the assigned or implied duty re: the requirements and content of the Citizenship Oath? Like you, it seems like a Congressional thing. MAAAAAYBE a Supreme court thing. But I can't see where the President, ANY President can alter the oath. AndinTHIS administration, I feel there are too many potential problems with anything they touch.

lol had to share
That's the first step. Then comes adding "I solemnly swear to work tirelessly to fundamentally change the United States."
BO swore to "protect and defend" the US Constitution, but that hasn't stopped him from trampling on it repeatedly.
He thought it said "Deflect and Upend the Constitution".
As a naturalized citizen, I don't have a problem with this as it is stated. There maybe something weird behind this... BUT as stated, it is fine. Some ppl may come here to escape war and see the country as a haven, they are pacifists or their religion does not allow for warfare. However they are going through the process, paying fees and eventually taxes like everyone else, so they shouldn't feel like they HAVE to take up arms, especially since taxes are going to have a military right? And they have no say on that even though they practice pacifism.
Now... I'm thinking that this is about Muslims... that is the weird thing behind it.
I agree. As it is stated, there is nothing wrong with it, BUT, this is Obama, and there is likely something more nefarious behind it.
If Muslims don't have to take an oath, they do not have to be deported or their citizenship revoked for NOT taking up arms to defend the US... I guess against OTHER Muslims who come to attack the US. That is all that I can think of right now.
So ina situation like the guy who shot up Ft. Hood. He was Muslim, refused to fight Muslims. And look how that worked out. If you want to be a citizen, you have an obligation to.protect and support your new home. If you are a C.O., you can work in. Anoffice, or with the Medical Corps or something. There is always SOME way to contribute.
Of course in cases of tragedy or crisis people can donate their time, talents or belongings and not actually take up arms.
Like I said, as it is written there is nothing there that alarms me. It can be well used by those who have true pacifist ideals or objection to warfare and taking up arms. Since they pay taxes, they have no say as to where they go and they could easily go to the military so they are already in a small way involved in something that they object to per se. So to me I feel it is just and fair that they can be exempt from that part of the oath and actual personal participation in warfare or armament.
The issue here is that really, since it is happening under Obama, there has to be SOMETHING underhanded here... some other motive that is simply not good and the Muslim angle is the only one I can think of... although of course, it could be any people group that are of use for the Progressives. Mexicans and other spanish speaking people (as an example) not doing anything to deter illegal immigration which is and can be seen as an attack/invasion of the USA.
What is going on here, KQ? I can tell you. This is part of Emperor Zero's War on Christianity. See, up till now, the only way a conscientious objector would be able to avoid combat would be for them to join an organized religion that espouses non-violence, and be able to demonstrate that it wasn't solely for the purpose of avoiding their duty as a citizen. A Mennonite, for example, doesn't say "I am a Christian because I am a pacifist", they say "I am a pacifist because I am a Christian".
Atheists, by definition, do not belong to an organization with any particular moral values. That's why the Monty Python skit about the Bells of St. Mark's was so funny with its bit about the blazer badge. One atheist may have high morals, and another, just the ability to lie like a rug and say they don't. Their fellow atheists can't throw a person out of atheism or say "He or she isn't being true to the ideals as espoused by our organization."
Religion is a form of moral infrastructure -- while a person does not necessarily have to be a member of one to have morals, in order to describe a particular set of morals or beliefs for a group of people, it is infinitely more practicable to say "He or she is a Christian", and you have a general idea of the moral standards they can be held to.
The reason this is an attack on Christianity is that this is the main group that has the ability to generate subgroups whose sincere beliefs are nonviolence. Allow people to, as individals, claim they are nonviolent, and the impetus to join a like-minded sect of Christianity is eliminated.
However, this also has the effect of making this oath meaningless -- but what would we expect a faithless idealogue to do about oaths that are legally enforceable -- strengthen them, or eliminate them? This keeps the field clear -- in the event of military service part of the oath being called upon, his fellow travelers in the communist sense remain behind, free to agitate and destroy the country while decent, honorable folk are out there serving.
He makes me sick.
Interesting take...
Conscientious Objector, like being a member of The Religion Of Peace?
And that is likely the primary reason behind it.
Is there anything Achmed Obama has not f*cked up?
No, not one thing.
