Obama announces end of “our combat mission in Afghanistan.” Although 9,800 troops will remain in the country “to conduct counterterrorism operations.” Say what? Apparently the president has re-defined the word “combat”—maybe he sent a memo to Webster’s.

The only reason Quagmire is keeping 9800 troops in Afghanistan is to protect the poppy crop. The CIA makes a shitload of money, and the Taliban will destroy them if they take over again.
“We’ve been in continuous war now for almost thirteen years—over 13 years,” Obama said. “And next week we will be ending our combat mission in Afghanistan."
Thirteen years. How long might it have taken if the military had been allowed to fight the war the way they saw fit, and with a clearly-defined goal?
Using WWII style win-at-all-costs methods it would be over in weeks. And with WWII style follow-up, if we'd run the government under military jurisdiction until it was able to REALLY fend for itself, it would be stable and peaceful. No corrupt locals in charge at the top, only US military. Cultivate a rule of law. Eliminate the opium fields helping fund the terrorists there. Protected by US occupation troops, years later (It would take a long time) Afghanistan would be an emerging well-adjusted nation once we were really ready to hand over control to the locals.
If we had done this and made an example out of this place, I doubt we'd have needed to do anything else.
You're assuming that our present "leadership" actually wants to win. Not listening to a single solitary thing this lying sack of crap spews out his pie hole, but paying close attention to his actions it is my firm belief that he is a member of the opposition (moslem,taliban,muslim brotherhood,etc.). Never forget who is pulling his puppet strings and her back round.
Actually yes, they are interested in winning, it is just that their defintion of winning is different from yours.
Opium fields for example, there are no profits to be had if you put a ban on it, victory is taking as a large % of the profit (and product) as they could.
Soldiers dies because of a lack of body armors (or from other entirely preventable causes)? Victory again, some "people" got to pocket the money that could have been used to buy that body armor, not only did they pocket the money but they got away with it.
Obama cannot tell the truth. Therefore the opposite of what he announces is the truth. Combat will continue ... until Obama surrenders to the Taliban.
He's referring to a different combat and a different "enemy". One he's vastly more familiar with...

The last time I spoke with some of those who have just returned from Afghanistan, the war is still raging on and is full bore ago. This ass hat finally got around to admitting that we have a war of terrorism. So his lips are moving, therefore he is lying. All that he has done is squander the blood spilt and piss the win away. When the taliban are making major gains like ISIS, well he, plugs and heinz-kerry try to become a talking thesauruses?
If the Taliban start making major gains, he'll recommend them for a seat at the UN. The Taliban, the Palestinian Territories, and ISIS can have seats in the same section at the UN: we'll call it the Barack Obama Memorial Pew.
Maybe a sucide bomber can set among. That way the whole damn UN could be abolished.
I don't think the word ends means what he thinks it does.....But then this guy never misses a chance to lie to the public, so when he gets cornered in his next scandal he can say "See, I ended the war in Afghanistan and all you guys wanna do is ask me about (Insert scandal here)".
The word 'combat' doesn't mean what he thinks it does, either. Of course, even if he did understand he'd just lie about it anyway.
