Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • It's always someone's else fault never quagmire's. Yet he has sent out "letters" to insurance companies telling them not to mention in the cancelation letters that it's barrycare that has created the need to cancel the policy in the first place.

  • To hear BO talk, you'd think that prior to Obamacare the insurance companies were forcing people to buy their inferior, substandard policies at gunpoint. How they were able to get away with that for so long without anybody noticing?

  • Words cannot express how much I despise this president. He takes no responsibility for anything. Goes to sleep while the Benghazi consulate is under attack, lies through his teeth about Obamacare, rewards all his cronies with our money, uses government bureaucratic tyranny to attack his political foes - he's scum.       • You nailed it Poppa! Women can not criticize him. At least not in front of me. If I mention His name they go off on a rant about Tea Baggers, Republicans, Congress - but not the Fuhrer. Maybe they bitch about him among themselves, but I don't ever want to eavesdrop on THAT conversation!

        • Fortunately for me, I know and regularly speak with women who aren't taken in by him.
          One of my female customers is actually a staunch conservative, a surgeon, and a prepper! I am helping her by building concealed places for hiding her supplies, hooked her up with a firearms instructor, and a CC permit class.
          BTW, it's a good thing to have many different skill sets among your friends, it makes survival in the event of a disaster a much better possibility.
          I have vet techs, auto mechanics, a surgeon, a farmer, a fish farmer, and several gun owners and reloaders in my circle. We are pretty self sufficient as a group.

          • I know ONE woman like your surgeon friend. I'm hoping she will invite me up to her home up in the sand hills for Thanksgiving. Our paths crossed at the wrong time or I'd probably be up there now. Having a few people you can trust is absolutely essential.

          • Speaking of Thanksgiving. I'm all for limited government and all but I've said before it ought to be illegal to turn on outdoor Christmas displays before then. Idiot down the way has had them up and on for a week. Before Halloween even! Where's AlGore and the GloBull warming crowd when I need them?

          • What do you expect when the retailers have the Christmas Decorations out on the shelves before Columbus Day?

          • And they usually eliminate, or greatly downsize useful aisles to make room for all that plastic crap. Where the hell is the charcoal!?
