We suspicion Obama will next offer Putin his lunch if he goes away.

He already offered our tax paid MREs to the Ukraine military so its a pattern.

    Ukraine buys almost all its energy (natural gas)from Russia. Revenues from natural gas sales are a primary source of income for Russia.

    Ukraine is almost broke and can't afford the increase in the natural gas price because it would be forced into bankruptcy.
    Obama(the USA) just announced the United States is giving Ukraine $1billion

    to assist in paying for the higher priced natural gas it buys from Russia.
    So, the United States is actually giving Russia $1 billion because the money is just passing through Ukraine.
    The first question: Has Putin figured out a way to raise the price of his natural gas sales and make the U.S. pay for the increase?
    Next question: Was he really in the KGB or was he a commodities trader?
    If this analysis is accurate, Putin just got Obama(the USA) to pay him $1 billion by holding a press conference and trucking some troops across town from the Russian Navy base in Ukraine.
    Who is the smartest guy in the room now?
    How's that for being more flexible?

    This administration decides to meddle in Ukraine to get them into NATO. The gov't (Yanukovich) renegs, so now we're supporting "someone else", anyone as long as it's not the guys we don't like. But who is in power there, really?

    I don't know how this will turn out, but there is potential - potential I stress - that this gov't will take a decided fascist turn, all the way to genocide againast Russians, Jews, and anyone else who is not Ukranian, or has any ties to Russia (including Ukranian Orthodox churches tied to the Moscow Patriarchate). Now I read that the Ruthenians (Rusyns, Carpatho-Russians) also want no part of this new gov't in Ukraine. The new gov't in Kiev has already started anti-Russian policies.

    THAT is why Crimea (majority Russian) moved so fast to get the hell away from Kiev.

    THAT is why the Russians have an army on standby.

    Because once the shit hits the fan, this administration will wash their hands faster than Pontius Pilate and move on to their next tactic, probably demonizing Republicans for the coming mid-term election and engaging in general demagogery.

    And the Russians, Rusyns, Jews, and innocent Ukranians will be left to deal with the situation.

    • Yet our media portrays Ukraine as a straight up victim of Russian hegemony. I've got a decent knowledge of Russian history and I've always believed that the Ukrainians despise ethnic Russians. Yes, I realize Russia began as Kievian Rus but after Ivan IV tripled the size of Russia and subsequent Tsars absorbed parts of Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine and the Communists turned Ukraine into a SSR, it surprises me to see today's majority of Ukrainians looking East.

      As an aside, I don't see the Crimean Tartars standing pat now they are a part of Russia either.

      • From what I've gleaned from Pravda.ru (note: this is an independent entity from Pravda the newspaper, which is little changed from its days as a commie propaganda rag. Pravda.ru can be qute critical of the Russian gov't at times), the Crimean Tatars are a very small minority and are not seen as an inevitable source of trouble, at least not yet. However, they are muzzies, and there is a potential for an Islamist movement within their ranks.

        Russia has a history of some rather brutal ways of dealing with restless non-Russians, and especially non-Christians. The muslim Cirkassians (my paternal great-grandmother was Cirkassian), were summarily rounded up, don't recall on orders of what czar, though i think it also was done by Stalin) and shipped to Turkey with nothing but the clothes on their backs. And it wasn't like they made arrangements with the Turkish gov't. They just put them in boats and dumped them off on the shores of Turkey.

        Any time a big country flexes its muscle in foreign lands, it stirs up some hatred. The USA is just as much a target as Russia. Russia, in its pursuit of empire, did manage to make many friends along the way (sarcasm).

        The majorities within Ukraine that are looking east (north, really), are composed significantly of ethnic Russians. Plus, in many cases, especially in western Ukraine, you have the common religion thing going. Russia and Ukraine have a much stronger religious culture than what you see in western Europe (where in many cases, it is nearly non-existent). Many Ukrainians and Russians think of themselves as Orthodox first, and Ukrainian or Russian a close second. And eastern Ukraine is where you have a huge Orthodox majority.

  • The scary thing is wondering what concessions Obama will offer if Vlad plays nice with others....The way President Lady Pants behaves He will probably give away a couple states and throw in half the military...President lady pants is way out of his league on foreign policy, and Sir Ketchup is even dumber....Between the two of them they don't even have 1/4 of a testicle, or half a function brain.
