It's 96 degrees in Kalif. today and I'm trying to install one of these thingamajigs on a customers' furnace. Can't figure out if it goes on the ignition circuit or the blower motor circuit as it came with no instructions.
Hmmmm... honestly "no instructions: is better then the "made in China with bad graphics and Engrish" ones". At least you have a chance with the trial and error method. Good luck!
It goes in the gas valve circuit, unless it's an oil furnace, then you have to get rid of it because of the Kalifornia Emissions Standards!

It's illegal in Kalifornia to purchase a Thingamajig, something about needing too many carbon credits to operate them in your yard making them unaffordable. If only THEY would produce a hybrid thingamajig. Isn't that a racist term anyway?
I've been an HVAC-R tech/mechanic in Kalif. for the past 20 yrs and have never serviced/sold/installed a wind powered furnace or repaired one with a "thingamajig" as the parts houses I frequent do not sell any. Lord knows I've asked, but they can never find me one. Left-handed Crescent wrenches-no problem. Buckets of weld-they got it. Skyhooks are on aisle 3. Thingamajig-no chance in hell. Is this part of O's new Green technology that's just getting started? If so, following O's model they won't be ready until 2055.
How do you like what they've done with the price of R-22 lately?
Now they're going to phase it out in 3 years! I remember getting a 30 lb jug of that for $20, now you can't touch it for under $425.00, and that's the wholesale price!
One of my co-workers just priced some at our favorite parts house and I believe he said it was $400 or so. Don't even think about R-12. You can still get it in Mexico, I guess. The last jug of 12 I heard about was $1000 (quite a few years ago). Cheapest we got R-22 for was about $32-35/30 lb. With the new R-410 systems now, I just have a feeling in the back of my mind that there are going to be many leak issues due to the high pressure, be it factory welds/devices or during the installation.
I haven't done A/C work since 1980, so I really haven't been tracking the price, but I talked to a tech I know the other day, and they're charging customers $40/lb for R-22.
I found a place online that sells ALL versions of Freon, but if you want certain ones, you have to call for a price.
For instance:
30lb. cylinder of R-12 Refrigerant. Please call XXXXXXX to speak with a Coolgas sales representative for pricing!
You get the same notice on R-11, but it only comes in 100 lb drums! I remember it in the 30 lb canisters.
R-134A is pretty reasonable considering:
1 - 2 $167.00
3 - 4 $159.00
5 - 9 $152.00
10 - 39 $144.00
40+ $135.00
R-410A is a little cheaper.
