  • While the merit of peace as wrought by the Begin-carter-Sadat accords is commendable, ignoring what I considered his ONLY selling point in the truly real reality of life, one must not overlook some fundamental facts; that in 1978 there were only 42 breweries in the United States, all the result of consolidations as required by the Volsted act; that in October of that year he inked into law the lifting of restrictions on home brewing, resulting in an increase in all things beer; that while the big American brewers don't actually pee in their product, there exists an assumed similarity between the two. More people than ever care about their beer and who did what to make it that way. There are 42 breweries in a few different states by now. Without beer, civilization may not have ever started, seriously.

    • I saw a documentary recently about how beer saved much of Europe from famine during the Middle Ages because the grains were able to survive the Little Ice Age climate. There really is nothing beer can't do.

  • Lets see? Example at least 50 thousand of we send money to some shithole country because the economy is non-existant and the people are starving. They in turn stick a bunch of the money in the leaders Swiss Bank accounts and spend the rest on Russian weapons to use against us. Tell me again how smart our politicians are. Yes I know, they are infinitely smarter than the media but at best, they are dumber than bricks. And what does that say for the people in this country that elect and then re-elect them? Aarrrggghh!!

  • Another stellar example of "Dear Leader's" sterling foreign policy. And they still continue to send billions in aid. They might as well send then some free submarines to cut the Germans out of the market.

      A friend of mine put it to me this way today...

      "In 1986, when Reagan was president, Libya killed Americans. He bombed their leader's house. Libya was quiet for 25 years.

      • I remember that well. France wouldn't let us fly our warplanes over their airspace. Made for a long trip to Tripoli from England.

        • I also remember all military bases being on lockdown, all personnel were on alert, and we all had to stay on base until told we could leave. Security Police at the gate were armed and had ammo too!
          We weren't sure if we were going to be deployed somewhere, or if it was just a single operation, but tensions were high, and there was quite a bit of speculation as to whether we would be at war.

          • Yup, I was with the 3/502 101st Airborne then. We didn't happen to be the alert battalion that day but we were all on tight leashes and all leaves were postponed until the mission and the aftermath of it cooled down.

          • Hey Sidekick, I've had this idea sniggling around in the back of my mind for a while so I'll just ask; did you have ideas of being a spy when you were in college, CIA etc.? Just a feeling, I'm probably crazy.

          • Ghost, it's funny you mentioned that. I was actually thinking about the CIA also. Saw an ad in the newspaper help wanted section believe it or not!
            They do require a college degree, and I never finished school, so I gave it up at that point.

          • Actually I did give it some thought. A lot of my friends from the army went into the CIA and the FBI. I decided to go into business.

          • The thought just hit me one day out of blue back almost a year ago, tried to read between the bytes so to speak now and then after that. Maybe I'm only half crazy.

            On another thing, you were one of the first I saw jumping all over this movie as catalyst BS, but remember the administration getting called out for leaking classified details of the raid and giving an inside track to producers doing a movie about bin Laden?

            Well, since they went all in blaming this latest "uprising" on a Mickey Mouse video trailer and asked Youtube to look into it, shouldn't they tell Sony not to release "The Killing of bin Laden" so as not to offend anybodies religion and fan the flames? National security you know, just sayin'.

    Israel has realized that it is on its own. When (not if) war comes to the Middle East I hope they don't have to resort to nuclear weapons to avoid destruction.

  • Hmm. Remilitarizing a buffer zone. A submarine fleet. Disputed territory. The Jews.
