• I'll bet his handlers just about had a stroke when he blurted that out. He either went off the teleprompter, but most likely misread it. I can hear Soros now, "The idiot can't even read. Thank God for stupid voters."

  • I don't usually give O credit for anything, but my bet is that IF he had read it right off the teleprompter, it would have sounded as if he was saying that the business owners didn't build the roads and infrastructure. However, he had to (try to) be cute and put in his breathless "I'm just one of YOU little people" voice patterns, which made it sound really REALLY bad.

    On the other hand - WHO built the roads and infrastructure? WE did. We the people. We may have contracted for it through the government, but all money comes from the people. Those are OUR roads, and we ALL have the right to use them. We ALL throw money in the pot according to what the government decides we can afford, and we all have the same right to use the systems. Period. How DARE he try to guilt business owners into accepting that they have somehow been selfish by using the resources that WE have all built?

    The government does not create income. They take from us and spend it as they see fit, but it's not "their" money.

In fact in full context he IS saying that the successfull are NOT that smart, are NOT that hard working , did NOT build their business on their own and ARE just plain lucky because someone else "helped" them. He was NOT just referring to roads and infrastructure

      • Oh and JP...I listened to Broad View again yesterday and I was flabbergasted that you allowed that "guest" dude to get away with saying that this was taken out of context and blown out of proportion because he was "cleary talking about roads"..or words to that effect. NO HE WAS NOT!

        • Of course, in your defense, JP...that was right after you went toe-to-toe with him over the "gay marriage is constitutional under the 14th amendment" line so maybe you were just tired of arguing at that point... :???:

        • Yes, the 14th Amendment, which made freed slaves citizens, makes no mention of sexual inclination, and legitimizes the national debt, is somehow used to justify rights that even the most obtuse legal scholar thinks are actually rights. It's gotten so that even the mention of the 14th makes my blood pressure rise.

        • I think he was saying that it's legal under the equal protection clause because in Reed v. Reed (1971), the Supreme Court ruled that laws arbitrarily requiring sex discrimination violated the Equal Protection Clause. However, I think he is stretching that one a bit far because in that ruling they are clearly speaking in terms of gender not sexual orientation. ANyway I wasn't buying his argument any more than you were...So why did you let him get away with saying the "you did build that" was taken out of context and blown out of proportion? I do believe I would have taken him to task on that one.

      • This Dukakis in the tank moment will not die. The left is trying to smear Romney and his trip overseas. He has said a couple of dumb things but the deflection squad is in full throat now. The New Yorker even has an Onion type piece out now that I've seen posted on FB by a few people. In it he gives Netanyahu a ham and congratulates the Jews for building the pyramids. It is actually kind of funny but the brain dead people on the left will likely think it is true.

    • Not only that, but Obama's "roads and infrastructure" reference was a faulty one, because those same roads and infrastructure are also used by people who haven't built businesses (just ordinary citizens) as well as people who pay no taxes. It isn't as though entrepreneurs are the only ones who make use of them.

• I would vote for a bag of cheetos over Obama in November. The cheetos won't lie to me, they won't steal my money, although they will take it, as they cost money, and someone has a job, because I bought that bag of cheetos. That alone makes the bag of cheetos more qualified to be president than Obama.
