Let me educate you a little since you either don't believe things can be like this or you've lived in a box all your life.
I am a cop, and trust me when I say I give a fuck. I spend my days trying to save people from themselves and the goberment. I see things that would make your hair stand up and its NOT in isolated areas. What the goberment has done to minorities is nothing less than re-enslavement. Now they are beholding to the new white masters in Washington.
They depend on welfare for everything, they use their EBT cards at casinos instead of the grocery store, they buy shit they don't need to trade for drugs, or steal from each other to get drugs. The drug dealers mirror the community they are in. Black on Black Crime, Asian on Asian Crime, Hispanic on Hispanic Crime.
You said you live in the west? I would imagine you live in the middle of nowhere because you seem to miss the daily carnage that goes on in the west and everywhere else.
People who end up on welfare are told to "trust the goberment"..The goberment will take care of them, so they get free cells phones (Usually Brands that allow no tracing) free food, cars televisions, video games. Walk in their homes when they do call the police and you'll find they live in section 8 housing, the house is usually a piece of trash, but don't worry the slumlord gets paid by the goberment to rebuild and repair once the tenants are done destroying the place or get tossed out. The house is a mess, dirty clothes and junk everywhere. Why you ask? because they are told things are just fine, we will take care of you. There's no incentive to get yourself out of this kind of lifestyle.
We have lost a whole generation and are working on the next one. That is just as much your responsibility as mine!
When we have our toy drive at Christmas, I see people pull up in a caddy with 2000 dollars worth of rims, dressed in 300 dollar shoes, and they drag there kids in, then bitch that the kids did not get enough or get the right toy. Liberals enable this kind of behavior because they tell people they are owed something. We are not owed a goddamn thing. You work for what you get. Handout should be temporary.
The special ones are the kids you see coming out of this lifestyle who don't get into gangs, or become drug runners for the local dealer, or help the local pimp. They learn early that you take what you want and there are no consequences. The kids who make it out are few and far between. Some places have drop out rates as high as 50 percent. Wheres your outrage about that? Do you get involved with your local school board? City Council? Do you help or just keep your head in the sand.
And just for your information, there's a lot cops can't do anything about. You want to live like a pig, drink yourself silly in your own home? The cops are not gonna do a damn thing because there's nothing to do about it till you start raising hell with someone outside home.
And you ask what we should do? Get people off the welfare tit! you earn your way to where you want to go. The sky's the limit once you take away the incentive to stay poor and on welfare.
Nowadays you arrest someone of color, they scream racism. There is NO personal responsibility because the parents are just as fucked up as their children. That needs to stop and schools need to start teaching kids the basics. Hell we get applicants in police work who can not spell or complete a police report, they have no people skills because they have been told by the schools for years they are wonderful and so is everyone else. That works well with a guy under the influence of meth. All he wants is a hug..uh huh...They get their ass whopped, cry and quit because things are not like they have been told. Some play the race card. I DON"T GIVE A SHIT WHAT COLOR YOU ARE. Just take some responsibility for yourself.
I get angry when idiot liberals come up with a new plan to combat crime, it is always one of the stupidest things ever conceived, like gift cards for guns..Jesus no gang member is gonna turn in a stolen gun for a 200 gift card from target. The only ones who show up are people who have a gun that doesn't work, or grandpa gave them and they are liberal and scared of it.
I could go on and on, but again the basic problem is this country making slaves out of the poor. not holding people accountable for their actions (the solar scandal and gun running by the A.G. are just two examples) plus the fact taxes are too damn high, goberment has too much power, and all politicians want to do is legislate us to death. The legislators come up with stupid ass laws, that the courts twist and turn till no one can figure out what to do. The courts are just as bad if not worse than legislators.
Now if more people got involved instead of standing on the sidelines, things may change in a hurry. but until you stop putting your head in the sand and join the people who want to make a difference (not that hopey/changey bullshit) nothing is going to change, and chances are unless you live in a fortress your gonna be a crime victim.
You need to read, study, ride along with the cops in a big city, go to meetings of political groups, and make up YOUR OWN MIND instead of having some politico make it up for you, that's the easy way out and takes no effort at all.
At least your on the right track here because there are some people who blog here who are some of the smartest people on the planet. You could learn a thing or two, I have and I am not to afraid to admit I don't know everything, but I know bullshit when I see it and I call people on it. That's what keeps politicians in check.
I wish I could give you 10 thumbs up! As a nurse, I saw very similar situations. And sadly, some who needed a great deal MORE help, and couldn't get it! And those section 8 homes? Frequently are crap. The renter pays maybe $100 a month, so they are happy. The landlord applies to the government for the cost of . . say a 3 bedroom home, and gets paid an additional $800 monthly. Except one of the bedrooms may be the dining room, or a porch "taken in " in a half-assed attempt to increase the value of the home. The work usually amateur and poorly done. Leaking windows and doors, no insulation, etc. But the government never looks at the house. THey base their payment on the reported number of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.

Fair enough, lets assume that I shed myself of my naivety and incorporate some new tenets into my thinking:
1) Cops don't give a f-u-ck.
1a) This may be endemic to isolated areas?
2) Intervention at the citizen level invites reprisals (firebombings, etc..)
3) Liberals have created a welfare state, which in turn creates the realities of black markets and criminal enterprise. (drugs & prostitution being core business models)
OK, so at this point, I'm not calling the cops. I'm not doing anything locally. What should I be doing at this point? Do I agitate within the scope of national or state politics? Do we dismantle the welfare state entirely, lower taxes, eliminate regulations and await free market solutions to these community ills? I want to know how this plays out, and what I can do differently. I don't want to be naive and I don't want to wear blinders.
I'm not sure one can do much more than participate in the electoral / political process. On the other hand, that can be quite a lot. Look at what the Tea Party (whether you agree or not with their platform) has accomplished. I'm not going to recite the fallacies of the welfare state and the destruction it has caused nor am I going to rehash Hazlett or Friedman you undoubtably are familiar with all of that. If the solutions were simple, then one would assume that those solutions would be implemented unless there were a lack of political will to try to improve economic and social conditions. That may be the whole nut right there. The problem is that the Right and the Left disagree about how to do it. That said, 45 years of Great Society programs have failed miserably.

I know some poor families, because of kids' friends. I've been in their apartments. They do not have plasma TVs and Nikes. If they are trying to oversuck the teat, they are doing it wrong

And at the same time, Alien, I've seen the brood mare at the grocery store, paying for her groceries with food stamps, then having the box boy help her take them to the Cadillac, the one with the gold colored wire rims, all maroon with white leather interior, make him put the bags in the trunk, even though there was nothing physically wrong with her or any of her brood. Looking at the expensive clothes, the car, and the fancy foods they bought, I'm guessing there was a nice plasma tv hanging on the wall in their Section 8 house, even though I don't know it for a fact. I have seen you side and RHG's side as well. I have someone RIGHT now living in my apartment cokmplex who gets housing, food stamps, medicare and social security (from his late wife's accoutn) most of which he drinks up. He sells his food stamp benefits for cash to buy booze. He is really a sweet man, but with a lot of mental problems. I reported him, and absolutely NOTHING was done.

You didn't really want to see the slum-lords behind those dilapidated apartments, the pimps and drug runners behind all those small (all cash) businesses (to launder their drug or prostitution money through) and the fancy cars (you probably scoot through the 'hood' in daylight when the fancy whels are in a locked garage and the thug is asleep while his ten 'baby mommas' collect their food stamps, withdraw their EBT cash payments and live in their government housing). I don't profess to go through the 'hood'.. I'm just talking about poorer neighborhoods. And I've had Section 8 come at me in unexpected ways in otherwise "middle class" neighborhoods (the last house I rented had an applicant who got rejected because she hadn't actually given birth yet and there were space limitations for a given family size).. That made me wonder how many others might be in that neighborhood on Section 8
Maybe we can legalize prostitution and take the market away from them.. And weed, too ;)

I live in Tampa so I can only discuss what I see or hear about here. There is a phenomenon known as "trap stars". These are welfare recipients who sell drugs out of the windows of their houses. They live off of the system but they are well subsidized by their extra-curricular activities. Likely the source of the 22"s and the plasmas. That is just one example of what must be many similar schemes.

The only one I can think of, that would possibly fit that category, would be aiming to restore white privilege under law. And I guess I don't think that's a very good goal to aim for.
