Obama wants women in combat infantry units… but after opening the Marine Corps’ three-month-long Infantry Officer Course to women, only two volunteered. One dropped out the first day, the other two weeks later. No women volunteered for the next one, which starts in January. Poll question: will liberals respond by admitting it was a bad idea or will they lower standards so women can graduate?

I could never be in any area of the military I applaud anyone anywhere that does it. There are things that woman cannot do and things that men cannot do and things that both do well and things that one does a little better than the other. It is what it is. People just need to calm down. Let's stop this equalizing movement crap. We don't have the expertise, nor the perfection nor the all encompassing knowledge to truly equalize everything and everyone. Stop the madness it is time to let it go.

Just heard on the radio that the ACLU (of course) is helping 4 service women sue the DoD over the ban. Having had female friends who have gone on patrol as part of the marine female contingent who congress mandates must make it back to a base-camp one night out of every 6 weeks so that congress gets a touchy-feely that these women are "technically" out of combat, and to hear the four women tell their stories... Like flashingscotsman said. it shouldn't be an out and out ban, but if a woman cannot physically hack it, don't put the lives of the rest of the unit on the line just to make some left-wing arm-chair general happy that everything is PC. people need to stop using the military as a social engineering experiment.
It annoyed me to no end when the military began becoming PC.
They started spending more time with Social Actions briefings than CPR classes. Seriously, what is more important, saving lives, or stopping the telling of dirty jokes?

PMS or menopausal women can be pretty fierce and ruthless. I know from experience.

First women to be put into combat? Sandra Fluke...the enemy would be so worn out not one shot would be fired and like France, they would surrender in hours.

I read a book, one of my faves, "Crossed-Currents: The story of Women in the Navy from WWI to TailHook". One of the parts I remember most is during WWII, when the WAVES were first established so that more men could go to sea. Two WAVES show up at a warehouse where pissed-off male Sailors look at them and say, "get all this heavy equipment put away before we come back from lunch." Convinced there was no way these two women could do it they went to lunch. Two hours later, they are struggling to pick their jaws up off the ground. Through using their brains and setting up a series of pullies, these "little" ladies put away all the heavy equipment way faster than they themselves could or would.
I relay this anecdote because, as a woman in the military, I recognize we women have vital roles to play in the defense of our great country. And we do offer important diversity and problem solving resources. However, I also recognize there is no way most of us have what it takes to be a Navy SEAL. My scrawny-ass sure doesn't. A few do, but most do not.
What in the world is a "diversity resource?" My God, please tell me you didn't drink the Kool-Aid over Thanksgiving.
In my mind I have this image of the Battle of Midway, the fate of the free world in the balance, bombs and torpedos exploding everywhere, and the captain of a warship shouting, "Engine room! Engine room! We need more diversity resources on the bridge!"
To which Scotty replies, "Captain, the women have used all the dilitheum crystal on the dinner table!"
All I was trying to say that women are a vital part of many places in society, but COMBAT isn't one of those places. I was also trying to say that women come to the table with different ways of looking at problems, because many times we have to rely on brains over muscle.
I think the most efficient and battle ready force would be the one that has each individual performing duties that they are GOOD at. Not where they have been placed to satisfy some politically correct nonsense.
True, women do play many vital roles in the military, it's just that combat infantry isn't one of them.

I was reading comments on the linked article and a Marine officer said the same thing. I'm not a Marine so I had no idea you could be an officer without being an infantry officer but I'm guessing there's a bit of history behind it dating back to the days when Marines primarily served a Naval function.
I know the feeling A1Percent. When you hear that higher pitched voice come across the radio saying they are responding, you start thinking dear God let me get this whole thing under control before they arrive and escalate the situation.
Some here have the desire to show that they have "balls" and can deal with anything only to leave their partners in a no win situation. Then its always fun talking with the Monday Morning Quarterbacks, who are just "following up" on the matter. I don't know which is worse, those looking to prove their toughness or those that are looking to jam all of us?
