Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages.   • The doctors were actually pushing for abortion because of three fused fingers? They would kill a little girl because one hand wasn't perfect? Did they go to the Joseph Mengele school of medicine?

    At the Sacramento Karz for Kidz benefit yesterday, I took two little girls for a ride on Vlad first thing in the morning. Sisters, one about a year old, one about two and a half. Their smiles were so beautiful. It made my day. How could anyone ever consider hurting them?

    (Edit) And if one of them had a hand that wasn't exactly perfect, their smiles would have affected me exactly the same way.

    • Down Syndrome children are some of the happiest and most loving children around, but they get aborted about 90% of the time.

      • And there is a wide variety of the level of development of Down's children. While some are rther severely affected, some are able to attend school, live independant;y, hold a simple job (like McDOnald's which my local honor student high schoolers can't seem to do) and live a relatively normal life. They do have helath issues, but again, the severity varies. I had my son in my mid forties and I was offered an amniocentesis looking for birth defects, particularly down's due to my age. I declined. THe doctor asked why and I said becaue it wouldn't make any difference. I wouldn't abort. She asked didn't I want to know to be better prepared? As a nurse, I told her I dodnt thnk knowing would make any difference, and there was a small risk of losing the pregnancy after an amnio. I said I would assume my pregnancy was normal, and take things as they come. Later they were concerned he was not growing adequately. When all was said and done, my son was delivered normally at 9 lbs7 oz, and later his IQ was tested at around 165-170. This from a child who gets bored with the test, so rushed through the last part.

          • They don't want the lifetime responsibility which MAY occur. It is a challlege to handle kids with ANY problems, but there are worsse things than Down's. Just like as birth defects go, Cleft lip or patatte may LOOK awful, but it is a snap to fix.

          • There's a lot of different types of Down Syndrome, and a lot of different levels. For someone to abort a child because of the possibility of it, is just shirking responsibility. They don't want the "burden" of an "imperfect" child.

        • I love playing with the Down Syndrome kids, taking them for rides on my horses. They appreciate life, and it's little pleasures.

    • That is the part that is most disturbing. What is this desire for bodily perfection? Why would they ASSUME that the Mother wanted a perfectly LOOKING child? That is insane to me.

  • I used to think that the only good thing about the last election was the opportunity to rub the O voters nose the crap they made for themselves, and everybody else. But the Commiemedia will simply make some absurd comment about how it is all the Stupid Party's fault and the zombies will suck it up and the Stupid Party will say nothing in their own defense.
