Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages.   • There is a nice hidden tax that goes into affect 1/1/13. It's a 3.8 tax on all real estate transactions. So the party that wants everyone to own a home will soon be taxing the transaction of every last sale of real estate, homes and land. So let me hear the defense of this nice hidden "penalty"

        • Nothing about this makes sense to me. Penalty under the tax code sounds like a tax to me.
          Everything about this sounds like a tax to me. It is also very evil law with the death panels and what not. Everything about this law is disgusting and the more I know what is in it the more I hate it.

    McConnel needs to shut down the Senate and keep the pressure on Reid and his group of clowns. Again every time the left open their mouths their words need to be shown on TV and in every ad.

    The unions think their friends barry and joey have their backs. Instead they have them in their sites to reduce them to just figure heads and a well of money for them to use as they see fit and we use to think the mafia was the corrupt members of society.

  • Democrats/Liberas ARE NOT talking about these and if someone mentions it they change conversation. They want to JUST CONCENTRATE on the fact that people who can afford healthcare and don't will get penalized so those that do the right thing don't have to pay for them if they ever come for care at ER's. How will the IRS know who can or cannot afford healthcare? Anyone that works can (in theory) afford healthcare even if their expenses speaks to the contrary. The IRS will not take into account expenditures of life and desires for the future (savings) and if you earn any money but truly cannot afford healthcare they won't care.

    There are real taxes here to contend but again the Democrats don't want to go into that perhaps because they still havent read the law even though it passed a while back.

        • It's not just corporations. The big unions, such as public employee unions, manipulate the system for their own ends also.           The new American divide is not liberal vs. conservative or rich vs. poor, it is those who prosper by manipulting the political system vs. those who pay for it. You have to let go of the meme that corporation = bad. It's not that simple anymore. Today, even the union movement is at odds with itself; the interests of public unions are pretty much inimical with those of private sector unions. From what I read, the biggest enemies of the public interst are small businesses such as trial lawyers, who prevent reform of tort laws because it is a golden goose for them. Coincidentally (not really) they are big givers to the Democrats, the go-to party for special interest slush. I'm not saying the GOP is great, I'm just saying they suck less than the Democats. I think there is still some chance the GOP can be moved to become more pro-freedom and pro-individual rights. The Democrats are a lost cause.

          Do I have any faith that Con-gress will accede to the wishes of 'We the People'? Not at all! Unless we start changing Con-gress critters, as Mark Twain said, "...like dirty diapers for the same reason."
          Further, until politicians honestly talk about the CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report) and the surpluses on the 'Investment' side of the report, it's all smoke and mirrors!

          • THAT, I have little faith in...I'm thinking of November 6...then we have a shot at getting it repealed as long as we get the masses (60%) to the polls to vote. That is what it will take to get the job done.
