That's why I don't turn up the volume unless I want to listen to music or a video.
The article is pretty crappy from a scientific POV. It's not 40,000 light years closer than was previously thought, it's just 40,000 LY less than the maximum of the estimated range (150,000-200,000 LY). If you turn that into a guess of 175 KLY, it's only 10 KLY off, or about 5% error. As it is, 163 KLY falls into the previously accepted range.
It also pulled said that the galaxy is 100,000,000,000 times the size of our sun, when it should be comparing mass. A quick check shows this figure was stolen from Wikipedia and then misused.
And, lastly, NASA had nothing to do with it. These measurements were taken by Chile's Universidad de Concepción.
These must be the same people that give Obama fiscal advice.
I'm guessing NASA thinks there are Muslims there for them to reach out to, or something.
