Paula Deen fired from Food Network after admitting to using racial slur: Too bad Robert Byrd isn’t still around or this gal could engage in a certain amount of public rehabilitation by writing speeches for him. Sadly, however, Byrd has gone on to that great Klan Meeting in the sky -or perhaps a location not quite so north as that. Oh well, maybe Quintin Tarantino is hiring.

  • She said this 30 years ago? I would be willing to bet the majority of adults in the same age group have used some kind of slur, or brought it up in conversation at least once in their lives, so does everyone loose their job? Somebody really had to dig for that.

  • I was watching "Greta" on Fox, and she showed hidden video of a young African-American man beating the daylights out of a white mother watching her three-year-old child. The young man was a home invader. He punched the woman mercilessly and eventually threw her down the basement steps. She suffered a concussion and chipped teeth. Don't worry if you haven't seen it, I'm sure the media will play it up big right behind their Zimmerman/Dean coverage.

      • Saw it everywhere online and pretty much everywhere on Fox. Don't watch MSNBC and CNN and whatever so I have no idea if it was there. It is out there and it is not hidden unless you only watch one thing and that just happens to be a very liberal place. It is disgusting. I would have shot him dead like a dog.

          I was thinking the same thing when I saw the video. The problem is, since she lives in Conn., if she had shot the scumbag she would have been arrested. Even if she didn't kill him she would be charged with attempted murder for defending herself. Then gotten sued by the asshole when he got out of the hospital because she shot him.

          My advice to anyone who, God forbid, finds themselves in the same situation is shoot to kill. Not only is it better to be tried by twelve than carried by six, the scumbag can't come back and sue you later.

          • This was in New Jersey it is my understanding. Yes if she had a chance to get to the weapon while he was skulking upstairs or teach the girl to get the weapon, but she was a bit young, I would have shot him twice or more and be sure he is dead. No way a jury would put her in prison.

  • If there was a clause in her contract then firing her is fine. If not I hope she sues for wrongful termination.

    The mere fact that we self censor is frightening and means we have lost a fundamental right. There is no right guaranteed in The Constitution to not be offended.

    • Exactly. I don't advertise my politics or religious beliefs at work. You should hear the nasty comments I've heard about both. A friend says that I should tell them so that they can moderate their comments so as not to offend me. No way. I enjoy knowing EXACTLY how they feel about me. Doesn't lull me into believing that these people are my friends or would ever be there for me.

      • Man! I work in live theatre, and I do the same thing: walk around in secret with my ears wide open. I've been snooping on lefties for decades, and I can tell you that they're cruel psychos who fantasize about rounding up Christians and conservatives and murdering them through sexual torture.

        Lefties are really unhinged when they think they're safely surrounded by nothing but other lefties.

        Right-wingers are pretty much the same behind closed doors as they are in public.

        • I do a lot of the same thing in my capacity as photographer and renfaire entertainer/carney. But on occasion I let it slip, when I think I might be able to help someone think things through.

          I was talking with a pretty young lady Saturday, an acquaintance from various events. She said something about how the T.E.A. Party was a bunch of horrid people. I asked for an example. "Well, they have terrible moral judgement."

          "How so?"

          "Look at all of them talking about 'legitimate" rape."

          "A T.E.A Party member? Really? Or was that a Republican? Did you notice any T.E.A. Party members rallying around this person, backing up what they said? Or did the T.E.A. Party denounce the person? Do you know what T.E.A stands for?"

          "Ok, I see your point. And what does T.E.A. stand for?"

          "Taxed Enough Already."

          "Ok, I can agree with that."

          "So, what I'm hearing is that you're socially liberal, but fiscally conservative?"

          "Exactly."

          "You're a Libertarian. Look it up. If you have any more questions, I'll be glad to chat with you, here's my card."

    • That is my take on it too. She was UNDER OATH, and was asked if she had ever said that word. She told the truth. The whole truth. WAY too much truth for her own good.

      She and her brother were being sued for racial discrimination. By a woman who says that PD called her that to her face, and that she wanted to contract a wedding where the theme was African slaves in chains. (Totally inaccurate). PD chose to fight rather than just settle. And, during the deposition, under oath, she says that she did use that word as a kid in the south.

      Who of that age didn't? My ex grew up in upper NW DC in the 50's and 60's. They had segregated restaurants, water fountains, pools, bathrooms, and even buses. I can only imagine what the deep south was like. And my ex would use that word occasional. I was 2 generations later, and I was taught that it was an ugly word.

      So, instead of looking as her as an example of what is RIGHT - that older southern people who were raised with segregation can pull away from that and embrace racial equality, some people choose to cling to old hurts and demand reprobation and a pound of flesh from her, for something she said in another world.

      It's sickening. I am no fan of PD. I thought she was fun in very small doses, but this public excoriation? It's just a sign of how some people will NEVER EVER allow this country to heal. Ever.

      • Well said. Your last sentence is key. The race baiters will never allow the country to heal. The money to be made and the power to be acquired trading in race is huge. The only possible way forward is for people to quit buying what these people are selling. I don't see that happening ever.

          • Look at what the left has done to Herman Cain, Ben Carson, Bill Cosby, Condoleezza Rice, and any other black person who dared speak out against the plantation culture of the Democratic Party.

          • I'm in the middle of watching an episode of Doomsday Preppers that follows preppers in Italy.
            One of the men brought up a point that I think really relates here. He said that when a collapse happens, the people in the cities will be most vulnerable because they have no way or idea how to produce food, they are dependant on those who live outside the city.
            All these years the Dems have been hearding people into the city, all they have been doing is making sure they will all die and only those who live outside the city will survive, making for a much lower drain on the resources.
            Dem politicians mostly all have homes outside the city.

          • If for no other reason, than to prepare for a weather event such as a hurricane or tornado. There are quite a few good ideas on those shows. It's very educational.

    • This is much ado about nothing. The N word in the south in the 60's was common. Even in the 70's in many places. Not to mention many blacks use it constantly today. It's PC bullshit in my book.

      • Most people would have simply lied about this, even under oath and over much less.

        This will teach people that being honest, forthcoming with the authorities is not a good idea, admitting a mistake will only lead to you being hammered even further, even if you apologise for this mistake.

      • What is annoying is that both her camp and her detractors use her Southerness as the reason why she used the word. Gimme a break. Ever hear the racist crap that eminates from places like Boston? She is probaly no more racist than the next person but the Food Channel is run by PC cowards. Look at the crap Biden and many many other Dems say.

          • It was and it is and I agree that was disgusting, don't know if she really saw it in a restaurant, but for her to want that to happen is a bit annoying. However that would have not played in the marketplace and she probably knew that. She has the right to be an idiot and a freak, we have the right to not buy her crap nor watch her show.

          • That's not accurate. She was talking about older black gentlemen in white dinner jackets - she had apparently seen that theme in a restaurant once, and thought it was "classy". The slaves in chains story was the claim of the woman who is suing her.

            I mean think about it - does slaves in chains sound even REMOTELY likely? For a beautiful, expensive wedding?

          • Never heard about that. I don't much about her at all. Based on the story and only the story, I think this is BS. That includes the the hostile work environment and sexual harassment charges. I also think Dean's response was pathetic.
