  • Pelosi & all other progressive morons who don't see that we don't have any money left, but won't stop spending are doing it on purpose. They are a threat to our republic & don't care that the nation is going down the crapper. It's not like Pelosi or the others are going to live with the problems they cause for everyone else.

  • Why is it ever time I see that old crows picture I think of the line from the song from the Wizard of Oz..."If I only had a brain"......

    • And I keep wishing the picture was accompanied by a bunch of Munchkins singing "Ding dong the witch is dead".

  • The problem is, when your economic equations explicitly assume "government spending" = "GDP Growth", they are one and the same, then you get the GIGO result we're seeing here.

Just like the warming coefficient for CO2 is overstated in the climate models, because the aerosol cooling coefficient is way overstated...you take those assumptions as givens and you are GUARANTEED a bad result. All of your equations are then GARBAGE, but from The Ones On High, these equations spell out their gospel.

So yeah, no spending problem here, reduce spending and oh see all that GDP, its gone! Ergo, we must spend ourselves out of this debt chasm we're in.

Make sense? Simple people posit simple problems.

    • basically, if I can paraphrase, what you are saying is that the conclusions are based on a set of parameters. When those parameters are wrong, the result is wrong.

In the case of Pelosi et als, one basic parameter is "gov't [meaning us, not the conservatives] is good, business is bad. Therefore, there can be no other conclusion than "gov't spending = good, business doing business [i.e., dreating wealth by making things people want] = bad."

Conservatives/libertarians = evil, therefore they can never accept anything or any part of anything conservatives propose b/c that would be acepting evil, therefore they MUST always do the opposite.

GIGO - This is one of the major reasons why everything (meaning everything, not a use of hyperboble, not rounding off), they do makes things worse.

      • I thought I put it simply enough...when you write an equation to describe some activity, you can assign parameters as you choose. They will either reflect reality, or it wont.

So if you make an assumption that is incorrect, you then have to alter other portions of the equation to balance it - further distortion.

Our federal government explicitly assumes that when they "spend" a doller, it necessarily increases GDP.

That assumption is false, but they stick to it, citing tangential things like people on welfare getting money and that somehow contributing to GDP, a la the broken window fallacy.

        • Didn't mean to imply that there was anything wrong or complex about your post. I just put it a different way. Sort of insisted that I stand on my own soapbox. ;-)

That broken window thing is such a pet peeve of mine. That thinking is at the root of so much idiocy coming out of all capitals and capitols. Sometimes I wonder if some of these characters are really that stupid, or are they just lying, thinking WE are that stupid.

Basically, the false principle is that any flow of money is good for the economy - no thought as to actual creation of wealth. That is the stupidity that leads to gov'ts spending gobs of money on sports stadiums, or giving people tax breaks for casinos. Here in NJ the arguably Republican former gov Christie Whitman insisted on spending scads of tax dollars on a tunnel in Atlantic City b/c Trump wanted it for a casino which he never built.

These things, like the broken window, do not create wealth. They just transfer money from one pocket to another.

As for the gov't's spent dollar contributing to GDP, it begs the Q - exactly what is the product of the gov't? And what is its value? I.e., if we were not forced to pay for it, how much would we voluntarily pay for most of what they do?

      • Its like logic. Goats have legs, men have legs, so all men are goats starts out ok, but you reach a false conclusion.

  • Good to see you back, David. Of course, federal law enforcement agencies REALLY see you as a threat now.

  • I get the point, but in reality, looking at Pelosi to determine if Botox affects the brain is like putting state of the art tires on a car with no engine, and then trying to determine if the tires improve gas mileage.

  • We need to engage in bi-lateral talks about what the scope of government should be in the 21st century. Only after we have resolved what the EXACT limits are, can we actually begin cutting whole departments and entitlements from this overburdened beast.

  • Just so you all know. I deleted Crowley's typical post "I blame corporate greed" from the comments. I will continue to do so when he posts that. If he wants to contribute something relevant, I'll leave it up. If he mentions corporate greed, at least on my posts, his post is going to disappear, I've had it.

        • Not censorship, more like posting a no tress pass sign or no soliciting sign on your property, in this case intellectual property, keeps the weirdos away and still lets you enjoy the company of those you wish to. I'm glad, he wastes more time on the same low voter intelligence subjects than anyone I have seen. I guess this means we won't be pressured to buy Ron Paul's magazines or join his religion.

          • When I lived in TX. I had a "Solicitors Will Be Shot" sign on my door because I got tired of the 2 competing newspapers knocking on my door daily.
The first one that knocked was greeted by me and my Ruger Blackhawk .357 magnum. He ran off before I could say "WTF do you want?". I didn't get another paper salesman ever again.

          • I saw a sign that said, "Trespasser's Will Be Shot, Survivors will be shot again"....I love it, it has a skull and crossbones on it.

          • I saw a sign, on the gate of a large fenced ranch property, miles from civilization.

"All liberals and most other criminals will be shot on sight."

        • Thank you very much. The meaningless redundancy has been old forever. Would that your principle was used throughout the whole of IHTM threads.

          • I'm a VERY patient man, I will give people too many chances. But, you ask anyone that knows me, when I've had it with someone, I have REALLY had it. Generally at that point it is beyond repair. But I will give him a chance. If he wants to contribute something intelligent I'll leave it up, but corporate greed is not going to cut it anymore.

          • That said. Crowly, I've seen a glimmer of intelligence now and then. Use it if you don't want your posts deleted.

  • This fine example of highly intellect stated on Fox News this Sunday that they dim wits did in fact support the 1st Amendment and the rights of the people to own fire arms.

She might wish to have a chat with one of her trail lawyer supporters about getting her money back from the very bad plastic surgeon.
