• Let's ask Brian Williams, no doubt he was at that dinner with Mr. Carson and General Westmoreland when West Point was being discussed.

• This was a serious attempt at knocking Dr. Carson out of contention and as such enhances his appeal as far as I'm concerned. Someone is threatened by the Doctor.

• I am confused... When I was applying to colleges there were some who provided incentives for me to apply. It was understood that I would get scholarships, etc. Once I made the decision to not go to a specific place, the fact that there was an understanding didn't just disappear, it is just that I decided not to go. For what I gathered he met ppl and there was some understanding of some kind but he decided not to go. If he said he had an opportunity to go, but then didn't go, not sure how is that lying... if the opportunity and understanding was here then he could have applied and gone right?

  • I actually read what Dr. Carson wrote in his book. He had the opportunity to meet Gen. Schwartzkoff (forgive the spelling) and the General encouraged him to attend West Point and offered to grease the skids (my term) since it takes a congressional recommendation to actually get the appointment.
    Also there is no "scholarship" and the academies do not use the term and Dr. Carson did not use the term "scholarship". If selected to attend a service academy, there is no cost to the attendee. Schwartzkoff was encouraging him to go but Dr. Carson wrote that he had already made up his mind about a career in medicine.
    I was interviewed for an appointment to the Naval Academy by Naval Officers who only could recommend that someone be appointed. (I dont think they recommended me....their mistake.)
    Anyone who believes any of the blatant communist bullshit that comes out of Politico is a moron.

    • According to the bio he DID use the term scholarship. I am all about him making an honest mistake, but he still had to correct the record. However the story is silly once all the facts come in.

    • I understood it was Gen. Westmoreland and not Schwarzkopf. I could be mistaken though.

      • I think it would have been Major Schwarzkopf at the time this happened.

        In my opinion the people encouraging Dr. Carson to go to West Point were merely acknowledging the talent. They had no authority to make a firm offer, but decided this guy had a very good chance of making the cut.

  • You are correct, A friend went through the air force academy years ago, they paid for everything and he got a salary. Wasn't much but the provide since you are in their academy, and they also require a certain amount of years of service depending on the additional training. He went on to become a doctor, spent 20 years in the air force. The advantage is he gets a military retirement, and didn't have a gazillion dollars in student loans.

      You need a congressional or presidential recommendation to be accepted in any of the military academies, but at the point you are accepted, you are in the military, receiving housing, clothing, food, pay and benefits, including education. You are required to serve for a number of years afterward, but as NSS said, you have no student loans, and a great career if you decide to leave after your commitment is complete.

      • Most appointments to the service academies are made by Congress. Each Congresscritter and Senator have 2 or 3 appointments each year for each academy. There are also some slots set aside for active duty military persons. All of these are not easy to achieve.

        There are slots set aside for children of Medal of Honor winners. The only limit on these slots is the number of Medal of Honor winners, with children that meet the minimum requirements. This is a very small number of people.

• Lets see, this week Ben Carson has been called a "safe Negro", attacked by the media, and now accused of lying which he didn't...Sounds like the leftards are doing everything they can by hanging Ben from a tree...It is just F*cking amazing how racist democrats are, and how they still act like they have total control of blacks...You would think the KKK still ran their party.

  • HC did give money to a woman not his wife for years behind his wife's back. He never admitted to adultery, but a man does not give money to a woman not his wife for years behind his wife's back for entirely altruistic reasons. Something shady happened there and that is why he left the race... the same essentially happened to Edwards.

    • No, I don't think the comparison is apt, either. Edwards carried on an affair that resulted in a child while his wife was dying. That's low. And as for the woman Cain allegedly gave money to, it's possible he did give her money, but the 13-year affair she claims they had is clearly IMPOSSIBLE.       • Okay... fine so the adultery didn't last 13 years but SOMETHING did happen at some point and he was paying her off and he decided not to continue with the race because of that... either something else was over the horizon or he just didn't want his wife to see their marriage be put through the wringer. It is not completely like Edwards I agree (and yes what he did was utterly disgusting). I am just saying that something was found in that case.

        Whereas this whole thing with Carson is absolutely silly, this is not comparable in my opinion HC. Carson misspoke and mislabeled the situation, but he didn't lie, but he had to correct the record and he did and at this point this is all that they have on him. He was very straightforward about his past so the thing about the violence is stupid too...

        I agree with all of you, this is OBVIOUSLY an attempt to stop Republicans from having a viable Black President/Presidency. Contrasting a Black Republican (whom one hopes does a good job) to the disaster that is and will ever be Obama will not be a good look for the Democrat party. It will show very starkly that Progressive/Liberal agendas JUST DON'T WORK.
