Poop foam causing explosions on hog farms. The manure pits underneath Midwest hog finishing barns are foaming so aggressively it’s oozing up through the slats in the floors… and sometimes exploding. Which the hogs bitterly resent. No word thus far from university researchers about whether similar foaming exists under the U.S. Capitol.

If Venezuela doesn't receive emergency toilet paper, will the people there be in danger of being poop foamed?
I was just watching an episode of First 48, and there was a big box with ROSES written on the side. I had to back it up to see if it really was what I thought. Yup. Roses Toilet Paper. Because my sh*t smells like roses! I actually LOLed at that! http://tinyurl.com/b3dcos4
Nah, they live in the rain forest where there is plenty of leaves and tree bark to wipe with.
I think they're safe. People in countries with communist dictators don't get as much to eat as American hogs so they don't produce enough poop to endanger themselves. Your typical North Korean, for example, probably poops once a year and it probably looks like rabbit droppings.
I think that they already got rid of their hairy clinger few months back.
I wonder if this was part of the Benghazi email dump?
What a bunch of lazy pig farmers. If they understood what a shovel and wheelbarrow were they wouldn't be having these problems. Clean the stalls out every day, pile the shit up out of the way, spread the shit out and plow it under to fertalize you farm crops every year. No foam, no pigs exploding, lower fertalizer costs, better for the soil than chemical fertalizers, a lot less stink around the stalls, all it takes is a little work.
I pretty much despise the hog confinements like that. No animal should be treated that way. They depend so heavily upon having forced ventilation, that they say that the hogs are never more than 15 minutes away from suffocating if the power goes out.
That's starting to sound more and more like DC, now that I think about it.
Yeah, but it wouldn't bother any of us if the power went out in Washingtoon.
I'm kind of hoping for it. The only thing worse than when our politicians don't get along is when they do get along. It just means the stealing happens with both hands.
...all it takes is a little work...
Well THERE'S your problem!!!
Hell whiskey, I remember mucking stalls.
It was neither fun, nor pleasant. It WAS, however, necessary.
I guess I am just old though, 'cause I also remember paper routes, when flipping burgers and washing dishes was an introduction into the workforce and not a career.
Hog pens, horse stalls, milk barn, the chicken coop, seems like all I did when I was young was tote feed and water then shovel shit. The funny thing is when I left home I swore I would never again ride a horse looking at a cows ass, slop hogs or shovel shit. As I got older though, and our old world started moving faster, I would think about my younger days and wish I could go back. It was a hard life but a much simpler one and we never went without anything.
I grew up across the street from a chicken farm. Talk about a stink! Summer could really suck, depending on wind direction.
Sounds like it was bawking smelly.
Sounds like a big mucking mess to me.
According to the article, the only solution they've found that works is to dump antibiotics into the manure pit, which changes the bacteria ratios in the pit and stops the foam. Lovely, eh? So not only are they feeding antibiotics to the pigs in the first place, they're dumping it in their shit afterward. It's like humanity CAN HARDLY WAIT to die from an epidemic caused by a resistant superbug.
That's another thing I don't understand. When I was a yonker we sold 6,000 to 7,000 shoats per year to the packing house and we didn't use any antibiotics on our hogs. Maybe drugs were not needed because they lived in open pens, where they could wallow in the dirt, that were cleaned regularly, and they were fed grain instead of processessed crap made out of who knows what.
Seems once they take them from outside, and confine them in overcrowded pens, disease runs amuck. Then again, that also makes sense -- to me, the problem is overcrowding, and there is no amount of antibiotics that can compete with nature's ability to generate superbugs to deal with overcrowding on its own.
Look at what happens with rabbits, or deer when their population runs unchecked -- eventually, they all get sick and die.
One of the food sources he mentions being used by the big producers is leftovers from distilleries. Seems to me most of the food value would be gone by the time the distillery is done with it, but I guess if there's alcohol content at least the hogs won't be totally miserable. Drunk hogs living shoulder to shoulder, pissing and pooping all over themselves and nobody cleaning anything... sounds like a college frat house, doesn't it?
perlcat is right, mash is an excellent feed. You have to look at what feed it treated with to keep it from mildewing to understand. Corn, the most common feed grain, is treated with iodine or mercury so it won't mildew. In the long run that crap is bound to cause some serious problems.
I'm considering going on a sour mash diet again. Last time I tried it, I lost two days in the first week.
They sell the mash from ethanol plants for feed, too.
...actually, the mash is an excellent feed. Once the yeast is done with it, and cooked out, the proteins are very digestible, as opposed to the inefficient grains themselves. Much the same reasoning behind why civilization took off, once bread had been invented.
Sadly, they cook all the alkyhol out -- it goes in the tank -- distilleries are not going to waste their main product. Poor pigs, as they love beer.
Bummer. I thought the alcohol was the only thing they had going for them.
They're just like us -- getting a raw deal all over.
I remember using beer to get hogs to take their worming medicine. If you gave them one beer, and then 11 doses of wormer, they'd happily drink all the dosed up beer, hoping for another beer. Much like a frat house, I must say.
That worming stuff is horribly bitter.
So, in this case, they'd be pissing and pooping all over each other after drinking non-alcoholic beer, which actually makes sense, given my experience with NA beers.
Non-alcoholic beer
Decaffeinated coffee
Ultra-light cigarets
WHY EVEN BOTHER?
Exactly. Why perish taking half-measures. I want my beer stout, my coffee strong, and my other vices all vicey.
Did ya'll get a good view of all that poop foam at the mic at the last Presidential Press Briefing??? They even named it - Jay Carney.
An insult to poop foam.
Poop foam, you just know some Al Gore Worshiper is going to try and use this to insulate his hut....
If you collect enough of it, put it in that DC-10 Firetanker than they use out west, 200,000 gallons out to be enough to to drown Reid, Pelosi and company, just tell them there is a big airplane about to drop them free campaign cash, and to go outside, look up, close your eyes and open your mouth.....
I like the concept, but I think it should be spread across Mecca.
Ohhhh, bacon contrails over Hajj, YES!
Not to be a dick Ghost, but Hajj is not a place in Saudi Arabia it's the thing all good muslims perform, at least once in their lifetimes, by going to Mecca to worship at the Grand Mosque...just sayin. The Hajj is the journey part as much as the destination, otherwise it'd be contrails over Mecca, which BTW, is just fine with me.
What do they call that big black cube? Apparently required visitation during the pilgrimage.
That's why I phrased it like " contrails over Indy" to imply a packed speedway instead of Indianapolis on any given day other than the last Sunday in May. ;) Not that I'm trying to be a Richard or anything.

Check (enlarge) out that pick, how would you like to have the Carrier contract for that bad-boy? Look at all those things. Hey, we could get rich and just put the gas in each unit as they're installed. Giggle our asses off all the way to the piggy bank.
I don't want to hear it. Bacon is gooooooood. A few exploded pigs is surely worth it.

You win. And thanks, filed that dip recipe on the right for future enjoyment.
Oh, and adding a little FD&C Red Dye #40 to the foam is where pink slime comes from? Think outside the bun indeed.
I've had the candied bacon. It's wonderful.
Have you seen Bacon Jerky?
I got some last week and it's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!
You know - I have tried 2 different brands, and I don't think it's worth all the hype, and it's horrendously expensive. Go to Costco. Buy a big package of Hormel thick cut pre-cooked bacon for like $12. Eat it straight from the package. Life is GOOOOD!
I guess I'm easy, if it's bacon, I'm happy.
So that's what the Fall Out Shelter under the White House looks like.
No, it's called The Fuhrer Bunker.
Different pigs, different foam!
It occurs every time congress is in session
And the occupooper is in the Oval Office.
