Pope tells super rich, bankers to find some ethics: Ethics are not what is needed. What is needed is the mechanism of responsibility (otherwise known as competition) which demands they serve the consumer or go out of business. A mechanism that has been legislated out of existence by the very state power this man seems keen to expand.

  • Paul Volcker, as 12th Chairman of the Federal Reserve, did kind of save the US economy back in the 80s around and he almost got removed beccause of his policies, only remained thanks to Wall Street´s support.

  • Organized Religion is much like Socialism, just another form of control over the masses. It only takes a couple of shysters like Jim and Tammy Fey Baker, or maybe Jimmy Swaggert to prove that point.

      • My ears were burnin' - now I know why. poppajoe49 - I do not support religious charlatans in any camp. Those shysters on religious TV are not what I see as Christians. I am at odds with many shallow thinking Baptists who believe what you said - that they are saved eternally because they have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Yet this is not biblical any more than Rome's false gospel.

        The road that leads to eternal life is narrow, hard, and few find it.

    That is the wrong assumption. Sure we cannot assume that ALL bankers are good people either, however, assuming that all or most bankers are is wrong.

    I want to believe that he MEANS well and he is not making that assumption it just came out that way, but he keeps making these statements and it sounds wrong.

  • Normally I saw out of religious threads (unless it is about Muslim extremists) because I believe that is a personal matter. But I am really getting sick and tired of first politicians and now religious leaders giving advice. The one church/state separation I would love to see is to keep clerics/priests/clergy OUT of politics Period! They are not the smartest guy in any room, and if you wanna push an agenda, do it with your flock and leave the rest of us out of it. Notice the majority of conflicts revolve around religion? (ISIS in Irag anyone?) That's why I never force my religious views on anyone.. That's also a reason I stay away from organized religion for the most part..If I wanna talk to God I do it without making an appointment thru his secretary.. I Am sure there are a thousand reasons to debate this and tell me why I am wrong but Thats my two cents...Popes and clergy and presidents who wanna be rock stars are nothing more than false idols....

      • There's 238 years of difference and political bullshit between those men and the religious leaders of today, and I don't mean just Rabbis, Priests, and Ministers, but the Holy Roller crowd that Manfred subscribes to as well.
        Back in the days of the Revolution, the religious leaders here weren't so interested in demeaning each other as they are today. They had a common enemy, the king. Now, they just seem to be interested in telling everyone just how bad the other guy is, and how perfect they are. People used to be content with the fact that they all were following one God, not how the other guy did it.

          This is why I don't subscribe to denominations anymore. However... some people DO need their rituals. They are no better than me and I am no better than them. In the end, if the goal is sincerely Christ, The Holy Spirit will sort it out.

          • And, those who are critical of one sect or another seem to forget that it isn't up to them to criticize, that is the sole purview of the Lord. Any person arrogant enough to think they are wise enough to make those decisions, are showing their lack of wisdom.

          • actually Judgment is the sole purview of God. Criticism is an entirely different matter, why, if humans didn't apply critical analysis and exposition to the forms of religion then they'd swallow just about anything.

        • You don't know the Bible or church history. God's people have always been concerned about the truth of the gospel. Why do you think Paul confronted Peter (who was NOT the first pope) in public (Gal 2)? And why did Jesus call Peter (who was NOT the first pope) Satan (Matt 16)? There are more, but you should get the point. Truth matters.

    • I know how you feel on this. I have no issue with organized religion (I think in many instances it is a very fine thing) but I as well want a strong separation of church and state. It is something that I hope protects both sides and just as I have no desire to force anybody into my church I also don't want the state forcing itself into my church.

      I am not Catholic (although I believe in a universal church I also believe it is unseen and cuts across many denominations) but the differences between their beliefs and mine are not something I so much fret about. What concerns me about Francis is that he is using his influence in ways that might very well impact my economic liberty and, if his economic naivete is implemented in full measure, might lead to a world of ever greater hunger, disease and want.

          I don't believe in Bible Thumping... the Bible should not be used as a weapon. Door knocking is important and part of ministry. They come to the door if you are interested they talk to you if you are not they leave. It is better to have my door knocked by a Jehovah's Witness with a pamphlet than a Muslim with a gun.

          There is nothing wrong about wanting other humans' souls to be saved as one's soul was saved. It would be worst for a Muslim to come to my door with a gun and kill me hoping to I go to his hell, than a Christian coming to my door with a pamphlet or Bible hoping I go to his heaven.

            Although I do know that there are some people that maybe annoying, my second point was just that if one has to choose between one of them and muslims with evil intent, I think the choice is obvious...

          • I never scream that i'm a better Christian. Frankly, I don't think it's possible for one Christian to be better than another, since every Christian knows we rely on Jesus to be saved, and not our own works. I just hope you will one day learn that making impertinent comments about my mental health is in the same league as cursing the deaf and putting stumbling blocks in the path of the blind. as for the rest of it, it's no skin off my nose what you think of me, but then you're a hypocrite when you want a dt'er to give the reason for the dt but then you get upset and resort to personal verbal abuse when the dt'er explains the dt.
