They were blindsided because they have no concept of loyalty and brotherhood, they only understand coercion and threats.
They have made this guy more hated than Lt Calley.
One could actually drum up a rationale for what Calley did. Bergdahl, not so much.

On a slightly different tangent, Brandon Webb stated on the Wilkow Majority today that the reason Bergdahl is beardless is most likely due to the fact that men without beards in that culture are sex toys for Taliban fighters. I almost drove off the road when I heard that.

I really believe that this arrogant asshole really doesn't have a clue of the role of the President of the United States. He thinks he is some banana republic dictator that can do whatever he wants no matter who it harms and no matter the stupidity. "I am the King". Anyone who disagrees or even grumbles is labeled a traitor, terrorist, homophobic, racist, greedy, anti-American, etc, and sics his Gestapo (the IRS) on them and/or has his suckholes in the media and Congress viciously attack them.

No one in DC has seriously called them on their crimes in the five plus years Obama has been in office and the MSM has refused to do its job of actually reporting news or vetting the Chief Executive Criminal so it's perfectly logical that they are unprepared for the well deserved blow back with this swap- and the FACT that it happened to be a treasonous turncoat they selected to intervene for. The brazen nature of what this administration does reflects a sense of being above the law and the lack of other branches applying checks and balances has done nothing to dispel that.
