Rasmussen: Donkeys becoming an endangered species?

The headline may be overstating it a bit – ok, more than a bit – but that thought must cross the minds of Democrat strategists when they see the latest poll from Rasmussen.

No wonder donkeys are an endangered species

Rasmussen finds that more Americans now consider themselves to be members of the party of Lincoln and Reagan than of FDR and Obama. The poll finds that 37 percent of Americans now call themselves Republicans, compared with 34 percent who call themselves Democrats. Rasmussen adds, “Keep in mind that figures reported…are for all adults, not likely voters. Republicans are a bit more likely to participate in elections than Democrats.”

Two Januaries ago, in 2009, the same poll showed that Democrats outnumbered Republicans by a tally of 41 to 33 percent. That’s a swing of 11 percentage points in party allegiance, away from Democrats (who have lost 7 points) and toward Republicans (who have gained 4 points), since President Obama took office.

Thanks, President Obama. This is a lot more change than we ever could have hoped for.

  • In the Late 60's I was a registered Democrat, however by this time I was so fed up with Lard Butt Johnson, I voted for Nixon; who despite all the negative press was an okay POTUS, until he got caught hop-scotching in front of the Watergate building. While I was in college, I made the mistake of voting for Carter, (pathetic snake handler that he was). By this time I was becoming more and more conservative so I jumped ship and became a registered Republican. You guessed it...I voted for Ronald Reagan, at this time I was in the US Army for my second enlitment. By the time the second Bush came around I was beginning to get really tired of the Republican Party. I was furious with NAFTA and other things and tore up my party card and mailed it back to the RNC with a terse two word comment, "F.U." I then became a conservative Independant and politically I am currently somewhere to the right of Genghis Kahn. My point is this: your views change as your life changes. For most of us, having to grow up and face life in all its glory forces most of us to mature, however progressives don't ever really grow up because nobody makes them grow up. Hence, progressives never really learn to master adult thought and therefore tend to be perrenial children, (in grown-ups' bodies). If we are really interested in saving this country for our children and their children, we need to stop voting for a party label and start voting for the folks who will defend and protect our constitution and our constitutional republic. It's time we took the rose colored glasses off ourselves and got much more serious...our asses are on the line.

    • AMEN! And, thank you for your service to our country.

I too thought Tricky Dickie was tops and I would not have cared if he got caught smoking crack with Marion Davis or having hooker parties in the oval office, all of them in blue dresses.

He put an end to a senseless war, got me and tens of thousands others home so the needless deaths of American soldiers would end. Now, if we could only elect a President with some balls to end this stupidity in Iran and Afganistan, I would'nt care if she was named Sarah Palin.

  • democrat pollsters and the MSM hit hardest.

I am sure that alphabet MSM polls will be rejiggering their poll mixes to only a 10 point donk advantage from 13.

  • Interesting even with the caveat. I am not a Republican but the last election it became very evident for me that there is more similute with my political ideals than the Democrats.

    • Don't make the mistake so many do Kimmy, quit voting for D or R on the ballot and vote for the person. You have to register as something but I figured out when Jimmy "The Goober" Carter was President that voting party lines was foolish at best, and outright stupid at times. I am not a Democrap or Republicant, I'm a conservative Independent and I have been known to change party affiliation for short periods of time so I could vote for who I thought was best for the job. Especially in my state and local elections.

      • You are assuming that I didn't vote for the person. Which I did. I voted for one libertarian because his ideas where more for what I wanted and the democrat and republican opponents didnt have thos same ideals that I shared. However I didnt' vote not for one democrat and everyone else were republican once I went through their campaigns and took from it what I believed the most. I am also an independent. I dont subscribe to parties. So my initial post made to that point that I am not a Republican but I ended up voting mostly Republican because none of the Democratic candidates represented me.

        • I vote for the person as well. Or should I say, against the person. More often than not, there is nobody running for the position that I want to see in that office. I look at what they say, what they have voted for or against, and make my decision. Still, in my many years of voting, I have yet to vote for a Democrat.

          • I have voted for candidates from both parties over the years. The problem we have is that a lot of the time we have to vote for the lesser of two evils. After "Dubya's" first term I would not have voted for him again but what choice did we have? Al Gore? Not even if I had won the lottery for doing so. The point I was making is far too many look for the D or R on the ballot instead of educating themselves, listening to the candidates and where they stand on issues, so the same old fools keep getting elected.

          • Good point and that did come up several times during that election too. Obviously something happened this time around as people obviously didn't vote for the lesser of two evils.

          • Well that was my issue as well... OBVIOUSLY not ONE person is going to have ALL that I want or need in a candidate, however I had to do a check list and those that came up higher in the ladder were the ones that got my vote. I figure with human beings good enough is good enough.
