Report: Engineer on Amtrak train declined to give statement to police

Report: Engineer on Amtrak train declined to give statement to police. Which prompts us and probably everyone else to ask the one word question why? Drugs? Booze? Fell asleep?

CO2Insanity: Tired of the CO2 BS and all the other BS in the US and the world.

  • Today the story from his lawyer is that he does not remember what happened....Must be a Clintoon relative. His lawyer also said he had a concussion...Just like BroomHillary....The special snowflake engineer is lying....and the way Amtrack Runs he'll get a bonus and promotion, just like at the VA.

    • Yep. If AMTRAK is run like BNSF, who I am familiar with, he will head straight to some dispatch office, setting remote control track switches and telling engineers when they have to stop or when they can go.

That's where the lame always seem to go, up the ladder to supervisory positions.

    • yeah well, being drunk or falling asleep at the controls can make it a bit difficult to remember pesky stuff like details.

  • I caught a report a little earlier that said officials think the train was running about 100 MPH, on a curve with a 50 MPH speed limit. This may be why the engineers union rep told him to keep his mouth shut. He may be in deep shit already so silence is his only defense.

    • Train was at 106. Speed limit in the area PRIOR to the curve at 50 was 80MPH. So this guy was speeding even in the 80 MPH area.....No wonder he didn't give a statement, or his speedometer on the engine reads in Common Core math Miles per hour.

  • I've looked at my usual news sites and not seen a picture of the engineer. Could this be like not seeing "democrat" after a lawless politician or "Youth" or "Teen" in the AP style book?

    Anybody seen a picture?

  • Having investigated a few collisions involving a train, the engineers are required to give a statement. That is federal law. Wonder why this putz did not give a statement? RKae is probably right...wanking round the bend....

    • He's using the "Obama Rule" which states: "I don't have to follow the law if I don't want to."

    • I've worked on a few construction projects for rail companies over the years and what you say is true, up to a point. I have heard it from the horses mouth, so to speak, that if anyone does anything really stupid, like blow a signal or ignore wind warnings, and something happens their union reps tell them to say nothing to anyone. Deny, deny, deny, that is the mantra until things blow over.

On the other hand, I have talked to engineers or conductors who have tried to do the right thing. If the engineer blows a signal, because of fog, rain or something like that, he is supposed to stop the train immediately and radio in. If he does he gets run through the ringer, gets suspended for six months and may be fired. Like truck drivers, they are told to get to a certain place by a certain time then get their balls busted is something goes wrong. It's a catch 22 situation for a lot of these trainmen so what do people expect them to do? When they are looking at losing a $100,000 + per year job, they are going to lie for the higher ups if need be.
