Report: France jet audio shows pilot locked out of cockpit. Guess what? This is beginning to sound like…um…deliberate.

• There is news that he deleted his Facebook account before the flight... also that he had recently become a Muslim...

more investigation is needed.

• "Gee, do you think this is relevant? Germanwings co-pilot reported to be a 'recent convert to Islam' " http://tinyurl.com/pc9wpxf

Pretty intriguing article, raises some interesting points that should be investigated. And some of the asinine quotes from "authorities" left me flabbergasted.

• too bad. was hoping that wasn't the case... not that it's a relief to know other crazies are out there acting out their inner-spoiled brats.

• The plane was an Airbus A320, & you almost would have to try to crash in order to have that happen. Have a look at this video from the Discovery Channel, & you'll understand why...

...there was either a medical emergency or it was taken down on purpose. Like others have said here, I kinda wanna know the name of the flight crew. I remember the Egypt Air disaster where the pilot did crash it deliberately a few years ago. Yes, I am profiling & yes, I want to know if we had a muslim pilot.

• nobody knows what this dude was doing as of yet - or perhaps never.

we have plenty scientists and pseudo-scientists but only G-d has the answer to all this, which much of it is seemingly rather bizarre anymore, lately.

poppajoe49: i thought gun rights would be the checkmate sometime early during the next POTUS' reign. but now i am pretty-much certain.

the plane has left the airport, so to speak.

• Stand your ground isn't a guns only thing. If someone threatened me in my yard, I would whip out a machete that has as much, if not more, chance of scaring the crap out of them. My point is, don't tell me I have to back off when threatened, it ain't gonna happen, I don't give a shit who you are. When I was a bouncer, I didn't back down from a biker gang member whose brother was Mafia connected, so I sure the hell ain't gonna back down from some asshole on my property.

• What were the first words out of the French authorities mouths? "This isn't terrorism". Now there's proof of just the opposite. Now all of them are walking back their stupid ass statement. Someone needs to learn Tgr following " the investigation has just begun and all avenues are being looked into" ambiguous enough to not paint yourself into the idiot corner.

• Well, they're holding a news conference now. The co-pilot wasn't of Middle Eastern extraction, and apparently not a Muslim extremist, or even Muslim that anyone has said. They gave his name, I don't remember what it is, but it sounded European, French or German possibly. The translator didn't really pronounce it, but spelled it and clumsily said it.

EDIT:
Co-pilot is a German name is Andreas Lubitz.
It isn't believed that he was a terrorist, but he wasn't a known terrorist.

• Interesting... we still need to know religious affiliation, regional descent, family history and community affiliation.

Now... we that said... maybe he heard voices or he was angry with his girlfriend and was going to show her... or maybe he was paid or was under duress...

• pilot's name is andrea lubitz. lubitz is totally not muslim, for sure. it might be german-jewish or slavic-jewish perhaps? regardless, there is no apparent reason as of yet determined for his crashing the plane.

i would suspect that extremism as an MO would have come with some type of battlecry, which wasn't picked up by the blackbox. instead, he breathed normally throughout up until the impact. as of yet, there is no bedside-table suicide note found, either.

we can assume just about anything at this point. the TV advertisers do, however, have an uptick of eyeballs, tho, for at least a day or two or week, depending on their success at keeping us in suspense... :O

• Well he is a Muslim convert

We are now in a world where terrorist dont all look alike nor have the same name nor same regional background, what is the same is the ideology.

• i know what you mean... y'know, if the left had their way (and this is apparently the direction that indeed we are going, just to be a realist) we in the future may not be privy to such "nuances" as religious background, nationality, or ideology from our handlers... perhaps mainly b/c we'll be expected not to have any of those outside of the sanctioned belief system itself.

that France was involved in the spokesperson-info-sharing ritual worries me. they're already advancing such an official stance - to not categorize any person with the "old way" of doing it... naming nations, ideology, religion, eh, "what difference, at this point, does it make?"

moreover, in a more lenient world of forgiving all things, including crazy motivations (be those from mental illness or national/religious/ideological ambitions) we have made ourselves less safe, and following logically thereafter, less trusting of others... which leads then to over-surveillance.

sounds like now.

• Once we know the co-pilot's name, religious affiliation and/or regional descent I am sure we will know a lot more...

Fascinating indeed that the names haven't been disclosed yet.

I am all for this being an accident and true pilot error OR mechanical error and a pilot or co-pilot being overconfident in the machine and not paying attention. Things happen even freak things, but if this was an act of evil this is a different situation all together.

You can feel when you are descending on a plane. I am sure that the passengers and the crew could tell. Something OBVIOUSLY went wrong, it is a matter of knowing the details and it seems a little too intentional the flight plan that led to the mountain.

Did I hear right or was there a CIA agent on board with her daughter or some kind of US government person?

Not CIA and a contractor...

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/french-alps-crash-victims-yvonne-selke-emily-selke-116389.html

"According to the AP, Yvonne Selke worked under contract with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the satellite mapping office for the Department of Defense."

Fascinating... this is the sh*t that conspiracies theories are made of.

• Locked cockpit door policies were introduced post 9/11, with access via keypad locks (there is another way, known to the crew…). However, during most flights, a brief excursion by one of the cockpit crew invariably ended with him/her knocking on the door from the outside, to be let back in, which was more convenient than fumbling around with a code. Perhaps the code was either not known, or forgotten. Of course the weakness with that system, is the danger of a hijacker threatening a hostie, and making him/her give up the code.

In any event, it DOES seem strange that in almost ten minutes of a fairly pronounced descent, no-one thought to take the situation seriously, and attempted to force the cockpit door earlier on.

The spectacle must have been terrifying for the punters.

Deliberate? Who knows. With no pertinent voices recorded, the mystery deepens.

• Not all systems have a combination accessible keypad. Those that do, can still be overridden by a "hard lock" feature from a control stand panel in the cockpit. Even with the combination, you aren't getting in the cockpit unless the guy inside wants to let you in.

When there is power on the aircraft and the cockpit door is closed, it will lock. There needs to be a way to unlock the door from outside when the door is inadvertantly closed with nobody in the cockpit. Some have a numeric keypad and some have a simple time delayed unlock button. Either system will allow cockpit entry after input of a code or time delay. Both sound an aural alarm that let the flight deck know if someone is trying to get in and allow the person in the cockpit to deny access.

It is designed to function exactly as it did and it functioned flawlessly in this example. It will be interesting to see the next generation of cockpit door electronics they come up with to "counter" this new threat.

• dumb (?) question - why no cams in the cockpit and cabin wired to the same blackbox that picks up audio? is there some strange wiring involved with that?

• Pilot unions have a long standing position that they will not fly airplanes with a cam on the flight deck. Whenever there is an incident involving possible pilot error, absence of video proof gives them an "out." Audio and flight data recorder information can tell us exactly what happened. However, the pilots simply say there must have been a glitch in the recording data and without video evidence to prove to the contrary, they have their asses covered. Everyone in a post accident hearing room will know they are lying, the pilots will know they are lying, but ultimately the pilots have an opportunity to walk away from the hearing with their job and pension intact.

• well, howdya like that!

anyways, once upon a time, we didn't need to broach this subject of constant surveillance... not quite the way we do now.

but eventually, sign-language guy and psychotic types will be manning nuke plants, so who needs terrorists?

• We're learning names of victims, families and groups on the flight. Not a mention of either pilot's name. Other flight crews are refusing to fly. They know something, warned the company of such and then it happens.

• You are probably right. Remember that freak a few days ago or last week? That got up and ran towards the front and the passengers stopped him?

The crew stated that they knew he was a flight risk and told someone he shouldn't fly and someone did nothing...

It is true that sometimes crew members on planes are idiots, but when it comes to security I think that the crew should have a bit more say and active power.
