  • No one in this country should be "legally" poor with that kind of money being doled out. It is impossible. Obviously that money in its entirety is not going to the truly poor in this country. I am so disgusted.

    • The problem is, the people that actually need it aren't getting it. The people that don't need the money are the ones who are getting it.

  • I know you guys are trying to keep some humor about this, but this shit has to stop or people are going to get killed. I mean, for real. This government is on the verge of inciting large scale riots among their low focus voters over welfare food benefits, just so it has a reason to pull the trigger on something that has never been tried in the history of our nation...national martial law. This little dictator would use that as an applicable excuse to enact all the 'executive' orders he's been squirreling away for just that kind of a rainy day. I'm sure Quagmire is smart enough to come up with this shit on his own, so I'm thinking his evil mentor is probably Valarie Jarrett, or some other stone cold killer progressive like Van Jones. At this point, who knows?

    • I find it interesting that Hollywood and the Entertainmment industry keeps putting out dystopian societal movies, books and so on. It is almost as if we are being primed to accept that reality at some point in time. All in all I feel like we are being primed to accept government control and this is just another avenue.

  • Makes me long for the days of when the government shafted you, at least they didn't charge you for the lube.

  • And it turns into a positive feedback cycle too, doesn't it? The more people on benefits, the more money you need; the more money you need, the more you raise taxes, the more you raise taxes, the more people you push into poverty..... lather rinse repeat.

  • God this is depressing..

    I don't mind the government spending lots of money on certain kinds of big projects.. Martian colonies, carrier strike groups, fusion power grid..

    But this.. I wish we could all just agree that workfare would be better then welfare.. Say what you want about FDR, at least he wouldn't have tolerated people getting paid simply to eat and breathe.

    • If the government has to spend money on clean energy then my choice is fusion and by far. I think that is our best bet for the future of the species.

      • I enjoy checking up on NIF every once in a while.. Some of the apparatus just look really cool. too. Their latest "high foot" strategy seems tricky as hell but promising. I can barely even pretend to understand exactly what they're doing

        • I'm betting they're not really that far ahead of you Alien. This is really new technology and I bet they're a chapter or two ahead of the class they're teaching...something most school teachers do with their classes.

    • Well, sort of. In our grandfathers' day, there was an expression for lazy people. They were called "Roosevelts". It could be a verb too. That guy just Roosevelts all day doing nothing.

  • More money for the freeloader, moochers, and looters than for the war time military.
