Actually, the gun ban was probably for protection of the customers from the staff. Having worked as a waitress, I've certainly had customers I wanted to shoot.
i don't even want to remember the pic i saw yesterday. a girl got herpes from a mcd's hamburger cuz some cretin did something unmentionable to it.
Well that pretty much worked out as planned, if they were looking for some insurance money before they closed the place that is.
According to Durham's ABC 11, around 9 PM "three men wearing hoodies* entered the restaurant through the back doors with pistols, and forced several staff members to lie on the floor." The armed men "also assaulted two employees during the crime."
Furthermore after some thought: Why don't we compromise, you can ban our guns, if we can ban your gays. everybody happy. :)

The owner must have forgotten that the bad guys don't care what the business wishes to do. Thus they got robbed by someone and there was no one there to help them out.
