• This was a sad bit of news the other day. Worse news for myself and the bass guitar enthusiasts around the planet due to the untimely passing of Chris Squire yesterday.

  • Sad as all these people dying is, the story after the horrific videos linked herein which you don't have to watch if you don't want to, is much worse. Tamerlane seemed a less terrifying name until I read this.

    • How sweet that Obama supports these people. But then, since he comes from a family of slave owners, I'm not too surprised.

• LOVE MacNee as Steed! Have an autographed pic of him, keep it near my dress clothes closet! Not custom, got it at a show. Hate to admit it, but I thought he'd died several years ago.

• "The Avengers" made a virtue out of a very constricted budget, by filming incredibly early in the morning, when the streets were empty (which wouldn't work nowadays). The choice of cars was very clever, too. Steed (Patrick Macnee) drove some R-R that was already prehistoric, so couldn't really age any more, while Diana Rigg's car, a Lotus Elan, didn't particularly start to date until Lotus brought out the radically different Elise, about twenty-odd years later. This wasn't product placement, but a very clever way of making the appearance of the series almost timeless.

  Similarly, Macnee's Steed belonged in no particular time.

  There is very little violence in "The Avengers", mainly because Patrick Macnee, a WWII veteran, knew all too well what real violence was like and couldn't contemplate using it as a form of entertainment (I think James Stewart, likewise a veteran, felt the same way).

• I really enjoyed The Avengers and I hope Patrick McNee has gone to the Great Stage in the Sky, better food, better venue than the one in the South.

• Thought the show was cool, and I loved Emma Peel when I was a young lad..Lets just say she had my undivided attention. :) Patrick Macnee was a good actor too....

  • I must admit that the show held very little interest for me, with the exception of watching Emma Peel. She was yet another childhood crush of mine.

  • Oh YEAH! Mortal combat with Emma was a big fantasy... back in the day. Now all I can manage is a wistful desire to arm wrestle Carly Fiorina. -- That was a great show.
