Robert Gibbs says he believes Congress will read the entire 1924-page Omnibus spending bill, reporters laugh

CBS News’ Mark Knoller asked White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs if he really thought members of Congress would read the 1924-page Omnibus Obamabus Spending Bill. The White House Press corps laughed at his ludicrous answer.

Knoller: This 1924-pages. Do you worry that this could gum up the works a bit?
Gibbs: I just think it means a lot of people will be up late reading between now and, say, the 22nd or 23rd.
Knoller: Who is gonna read that?
Gibbs: As I noticed during the healthcare debate, that is a big thing. I assume, I assume many members up on Capitol Hill.
Knoller: Really?
(Laughter)
Gibbs: I take ‘em at their word. I take ‘em at their word.

It is impossible – absolutely impossible – to believe that anyone in the White House press corps still takes this guy seriously.

  • He takes Congressmen at their word? He’s more a fool than I thought. And that’s saying something.

  • Is it even possible to read 1,924 between now and December 23? And these are 1,924 pages of bloated, incomprehensible, mind-numbing, coma-inducing legalese. I don't think anyone in Congress is going to read the whole thing.

  • The follow-up question needs to be "You say they will read it, as if reading a bill were important. Is it? And if so... can I ask a question about health care?"

  • "Reporters laugh."

Sadly, the joke's on us as this shabby, lame duck Congress flips the public the bird.

  • Sure they ALL will read it. The heralded pledge to America by the republicans’ might as well be rolled up into a nice comfortable suppository form and given to the upcoming speaker of the house as he broke that pledge even before being sworn into his new position. Same old lies, same old deal making, same old spend the taxpayers money without the slightest sense of fiscal responsibility, what’s adding a few more billion to the debt the politicians created in the first place, they will simply add another tax in life to take it from the American public. A pack of immoral, unethical, back room power mongers whose only concern is their status. We obviously need a three party system, term limits and jail time for liars that break their promise to America, much less their oath they swore when taking office!
The political system is broke! Corrupted to the last, absolutely amazing how these slime balls run on the promise to help America and the only things they help is themselves and their inflated ego’s and bank accounts!

    • But Gibbs is the joke. He can join Colbear and Stewart on the mis-named "Comedy Channel". The only talent the three of them have is a stupid look on their face. But Gibbs gets laughed at by humans, if one considers "journalists" humans. Colbear (pronounce it that way, I'll spell it that way) and Stewart require a laugh track.
