Robin Williams has died at 63.

The coroner suspects the death was “a suicide due to asphyxia.”

RIP Robin. We’ve enjoyed you since the first “Nanoo Nanoo.” You can be happy you gave CNN something to talk about and analyze with 500 different talking heads for the next 6  months besides airplane crashes.

  • Robin Williams was one comedian/actor who was good enough at his trade for me to overlook his rather leftish views (extreme euphemism due to current circumstances).

    Being of Russian descent my favorite performance was in Moscow on the Hudson. There are not many westerners who can pull off Russian speech while not a Russian speaker. Williams managed better than anyone I ever heard. He even did better than Placido Domingo in the role of Herman in Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame (Queen of Spades).

  • Having had an alcoholic that I loved die in my arms from a suicide, I understand this a little more than most. And it makes me very sad.

  • I agree with PJ49. My first thought was also along the same lines. It is easy to assume that his lows were just as dramatic as his highs. He had been in the news a lot over his rehab stints and his TV show being cancelled, which I am sure led to a downward spiral.

    He was hilarious on the old Johnny Carson show and any other time he just went off but I though you could always see an undertone of sadness that I always thought would lead to this. His idol, Jonathon Winters, suffered from depression but he was able to deal with it in a way that apparently Williams could not.

    • Watching the news, they keep putting up pictures of him posing for pictures with fans. He almost always has a sad look on his face. He was not a happy man, and used his humor to mask his sadness.

  • I'm not surprised. I seem to see an underlying problem he had and I always figured he would take the quick way home. I guess wealth can't clear all the skeletons away. Being a prisoner in a bottle is a wicked way to live. RIP funnyman.

    • True. These things comes in seasons as Dr. Ablow stated. With his resources and the people surrounding him, he should have been able to get out of it and move on to a better situation even if later on he got depressed again. Suicide is too final a solution for something that in all truth has very many alternatives in solutions. However, I do understand that those those who commit suicide they think it is the only solution but those are lies and in some cases demonic in nature. Do not know/Can't know if that was his case (he was an atheist), but even those who are Christians have attempted or have succeed in suicide and they cannot see the many solutions their problems have.

      • Seems he was also having serious money problems as a result of the alimony he had to pay his ex-wives.

        • On the radio I heard that it seems that he was on early stages of Parkinson's disease. The idea of his mind going feeble MAY have contributed to his decision but still... too final and in this day and age with the medications we have on hand... :-/

          • Yes it affects the nervous system. However I am sure that it does not do the mind any favors. I am so sorry about your Father.

            All in all not being able to control oneself is something that is going to cause a lot of problems for a person that has depression already set in their minds. Not saying it is okay he committed suicide, but it is a bit more understandable.

          • My mother has this. Hard for her to talk, hard for her to walk. But when she sends an email you can see her mind is still sharp as a tack.

            Considering his style of comedy and how he interacted with people, again I feel his decision is understandable. Even if I myself disagree with suicide.

    • Seems like this is a common occurrence among comedians who are brilliant...Sooner or later they self destruct. Imagine trying to live up to your own reputation day in and day out. Plus throw in drugs and alcohol and it is no surprise depression shows up. RIP Robin. One of the finniest guys I have ever seen.

      • Many comics are in many ways, damaged goods. They use humor to deal with or deflect from their true feelings. I figured Williams would have ODed rather then committing suicide, but either way, it's a sad end to a talented man's life.

        • The sad thing is that he committed suicide the day after or a few days after his daughter's birthday. He couldn't even use that as a way to get out of his desire to kill himself. He was truly in a very bad way.

  • What took him so long?
    Seriously, look at the guy. He was obviously bipolar. No person in their right mind could be that manic all the time.
    He has been to rehab a couple of times, and battling depression.
    OK, he was a funny guy, but he was totally out of control.
    I'll miss his humor, but this doesn't surprise me one bit.

    • RW might have been a bit high-strung, or even bi-polar. But out-of-control might be a little strong. If you want out of control, look at Andy Kaufman. Now THAT was out of control.

    • Ya know, the very first thing I thought was, "Damn! I'm older than Robin Williams?" The second thought was how impossible it would be to live with someone like him.

      • He was married three times. His last wife must have had the patience of Job. Yes he was hella funny but there is no way that I could live with him.
