  • Wow. Just wow. Here's hoping the apple fell really far from the tree. I would love to read crowleys comments on this, but after reading the preceding article, my tolerance for stupidity is just full for the day. On another note, it's nice seeing all the regular posters on here again.

      Wait, I take that back. Romney prevented Romney from selling us out when he admitted his true intentions with that 47% comment. And even moreso when he showed no remorse for saying it after he lost with that "gifts" comment.

        Why should he have been remorseful about making the statement. Perhaps you meant to say he is remorseful because so many able-bodied people choose to sit out and collect a check from the government and he is unable to change that.

        • Yet he was hypocritical for saying that. He wanted to cut domestic funding but had no problem with maintaining if not increasing foreign aid to satisfy his lobbyist backers. Ron Paul wanted to balance the budget all around.

          Besides, Romney not only alienated himself from 47% on assistance but also another 10% of his own republicans who supported Ron Paul by censoring them. Even if there's overlap between those two groups, that still adds up to over 50%. So Romney made it mathematically impossible for him to win the election.

  • Known me a LOT of Holocaust deniers in my life. My parents were. It's amazing to watch them squirm and try to justify their nonsense when hit with facts. They eventually get down to "Well... it wasn't 6 million." Like claiming it's 6 million if it was really 5 million is some sort of grand scandal and conspiracy. They always claim to be "anti-Zionist, not anti-Jew"... but get a couple beers in 'em and the truth comes out.

    How many countries were created after WWI? The map of Europe was wildly redone, but is any of THAT a conspiracy? Nope. But people get hot under the collar when a Jewish state is created. It's the only non-Muslim state in that region. And THAT is necessary!

    • Jewish, Muslim, or otherwise doesn't matter. The fact is that gold was stolen from us and land from the local Muslims to establish this new country. Stealing land and gold to create ANY country is completely wrong, it doesn't matter what religious or ethnic group it's for.

      I mean, it didn't work out too well for France when they helped our country get established and led to their own revolution. Same concept.

Read the accounts of the service men who liberated the death camps. Listen to the stories that those who are left and who survived them and then try and tell the rest of us that the Holocaust never happened.

The actual number of dead at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators was well over 13 million and only 6 million of them were Jews...the rest were Christians. Let's say you have $200,000,0000,000 (that's 200 billion dollars) worth of gold but you have an economy that has moved well beyond two hundred billion dollars worth of economic growth and your national currency can no longer keep pace with your country's economic output, what happens to your currency? Banks can't loan money unless the government decides to print 'fiat' currency to keep pace with the economy and what happens to that currency when it goes into circulation? That's right, it starts to cause inflation; now what do you do? Smart people say: "Base the currency on the strength of the economy." They've just created 'fiat' currency...are you beginning to see that your constant meme regarding 'fiat' money rings a little hollow?

            It doesn't really matter who you want to blame for stealing the gold, because there isn't enough gold in the world at this time to cover the value of the combined economies and value of human production, of the world, at this time. There isn't any reason to bitch about stolen gold anymore because there wouldn't be enough of it to cover the real cost of the stuff we have now anyway. Well, let's move to a multiple metal commodity market to cover the price of shit made and owned, you ask. We already do that...how's that working out?           • It would be easy to cover the money supply in gold. Just adjust the ratios until it is a more manageable number. For example, a current $100 would become $10 under a gold standard. But no, you wouldn't have had the remaining $90 stolen from you because prices would be 10 times cheaper as well. For example, $4.00 gas for be 40 cents.

            If we made gold worth a ridiculous amount of money, and minted our coins out of it, a coin the size of a dime would be worth thousands, and it would be impossible to make a coin the size we would need to conduct commerce. Also, the pure gold coins would be so soft that they would wear away to the point that you could feasibly lose hundreds of dollars a day just from them rubbing in your pocket. By mixing them with other alloys, so that the gold would be minimal and more easily handled and traded, we might as well just make our money out of steel.

            I wouldn't need that current arrangement under a gold standard because the value of any money I do earn won't be stolen.

            As for internet purchases, it would work where you would deposit the coins at a bank and the seller's bank would be required to give them the same coins that you deposited. I know this sounds hypocritical in relying on a banking system that caused all these problems with fiat currency, but it would merely be a medium of exchange instead of a place to store your wealth.

            I go to work. At the end of the week, the company I work for transfers some numbers in my bank account. I get online. I shift numbers from out of my bank account to pay some bills and buy some music.

            Where's the "money"? What's "the money supply"?

            Trying for the old "let's make the government hold a stock of gold to back the money supply" is as ridiculous as trying to keep your brick-and-mortar bookstore chain open. Science (for good or bad - as science ALWAYS does things) has rendered it archaic and impossible.

          • It's a currency backed by no tangible commodity. Therefore, they had to take away that very commodity that was backing it. Theft basically.

            Edit: last word on this stupid topic: fiat currency is not necessarily a bad thing but it can and has obviously create inflationary conditions as the Fed increases the money supply. That said, all boats rise with the tide and over the long run we keep up. Commodity backed currency has one huge flaw and that is it restricts economic growth because the pie can only be so big. It also leads to numerous panics as its availability varies. Therefore, like anything else man made there is no perfect monetary system. You using this inane argument as a crutch for being a miserable failure serves nothing useful. Does it?

            Our financial problems are not a direct function of fiat currency but rather the inability of the developed countries' governments to spend what they take in and no more. We ran deficits when we were all on the gold standard too.
