Now I'm all for equal protection under the law . . .I'm even for getting rid of all government involvement in marriage and replacing it with civil unions for everybody . . . but hate crimes legislation are the real violation of equality as they assume that some classes are deserving of protections than others, that some should have a more advantageous system of due process and that what is a crime for some people to commit is not a crime for others.
