Obama needs to bail out Italy in order to restore global order and stability. It is time that we bring peace to the all powerful socialistic Europe. We shall strive to live upon their success and glory.

Will US fall as the top superpower and be replaced by either China or India?
I am just an avid follower of politics. I am starting to acquire a deep interest in politics.
All governments are constantly transitioning. England used to be the superpower of the world, before them it was the Holy Roman Empire. The USSR was neck in neck with us for top superpower status for a long time.
I believe that top superpower status is mainly tied to weaponry and military strength, followed closely by financial status. With that in mind, China may have already surpassed us as top superpower. They are certainly financially more secure than us, they have more military strength in pure numbers of troops, and they certainly have nuclear weaponry. India, I am less certain about as far as troop strength, but financially they qualify and they also have nukes. I guess it is all a matter of who is more willing to flex their muscle as to who will be top dog.
We have had our military decimated over the past decades. Partly because of cost cutting measures, but also because of the mistaken belief that with the cold war over, we don't need the troops and weaponry we used to. Big mistake. We are now spread so thin that I don't think we could put up a very good defense if we were attacked on our home soil. We can't even secure the borders againse poor, unarmed, uneducated, invaders from the south! How good do you think we would do against an organized, armed, invasion?
According to Tytler, superpowers last about 200 years. I think we will outlive that statistic simply because we have a self-selected population who is motivated to make money, which creates national wealth. That wealth translates into a massive capability to project power globally. The petty dictator who currently occupies the White House is temporary. Once removed by the voters, the country, IMO, will regain its economic footing.
China has a lot of problems and its bubble will burst. India too. I think manufacturing will come back to the US, energy independence is very possible. That leaves the national debt and that is serious. Despite the current state of affairs, I will put my money on the US any day.

I mentioned in another thread that China was overspending on raw materials in order to gain the infrastructure to maintain their manufacturing base. India may be doing this also. They are doing all this at an accelerated pace compared to how we did it, and they will likely implode much faster as well, but for now, they are in competition for top superpower status.
I do expect manufacturing to return to the US when they implode and no longer can afford to sell their junk at bargain basement prices.
Another point, energy independence. We were doing just fine in that area until the Saudi's started providing oil for less than we could. If the cost basis were to turn back in our favor, there is no reason we couldn't restart our oil industry and be completely self sufficient, plus with the advances in natural Gas use, we would have no problem.
In answer to your question: If n0bama is re-elected in 2012 then the answer to your question is YES for CERTAIN!
Oh, the rose colored glasses the Europeans must wear to think that Obama who can't even come close to balancing one U.S. federal budget can save them.
How does it make sense to ask a country that is on the brink of bankruptcy for financial help?
1. They haven't got the money, so you should ask the people that do.
2. They obviously don't know how to handle money, so asking them for advice is really stupid.
Greece is run by someone even more incompetent than Obama. Who the hell asks for permission to enact austerity measures from the people that are rioting because you proposed austerity measures?
