Seat belt law for cats! Just when you thought those East Coast whackos and their police states couldn’t get any weirder…

  • I think the people who drive around with their dogs in their lap should be fined. There is no way that is safe.

    • Years ago I investigated a car crash where the lady who owned the car claimed the dog was "engaged" with the steering wheel and she could not "dis-engage" him causing her to run over a lawn and into a garage. I first listed the dog as the driver, the traffic accident guys laughed and made me take him out, looked kinda cool on the report, the driver was listed as "Tinker Bell" and under the description box was listed as 2 feet, 45 pounds, brown eyes/white hair and a collie. Age box said estimate..21 in dog years....

  • Ran across this in a column, more apropos to another recent stupidity, but stupid is as stupid does:

“You can now marry your same-sex first cousin in New York and get an abortion with taxpayer money, but you can't have a large Pepsi.”

  • Ah yes, states are broke, crime is up, unemployment is rising again, but the most important thing we got going is a seatbelt law for animals...the stupidity of politicians never will cease to amaze me. Lets not fix problems, lets add another way to fine the citizens....woof.

    • Did they think that maybe people drive safer when the pets are in the car because they don't have kitty seats?

      • I give up trying to figure out politicians, but perhaps there is a idea in this after all, Put a liberal in a car, doors locked, (windows cracked for ventilation) and fill it with about a dozen angry feral cats who are hungry and fill the libs pockets with kitty kibble. Or fill the car with about a dozen little angry, ankle biter dogs, and give the lib pockets full of meat..either way I like it...

        • Let the libs try to put said cats in recommended restraints. After the wounds have healed, they may reconsider. Though I will say I think most animals should be confined, leashed, something so they aren't "helping the driver. Read on. . . .

    • No kidding. If i tried to restrain my cat in any way, I'm going to the hospital with multiple wounds. And she is sweet. So long as things go HER way.

      • Sidekick, is yours the kind of sweet kitty that says, "I love you, Owner... NOW PUT DOWN THAT SAUCER OF MILK and slowly baaaaack away before one of us gets hurt"?

        • That is exactly how she is. Her ferocity is camouflaged by a thin veneer of cuteness. She's a Snowshoe. Google an image you'll see what I mean.

  • Don't they have a law like this for dogs? You know, so one cannot put the dog in a crate on top of the vehicle? Of course, we recent had a Mom put her CHILD on top of the vehicle and drive away. She was completely unaware that the carseat with child attached was missing. Fortunately, the car seat protected the 6 week old, and she was uninjured.

  • LOLOLOLOLOL! There is obviously some crazy cat lady or guy who has too much power and has sycophants as colleagues.

    • These guys want to feel useful. They have nothing better to do than dream up new laws.

I can see them in my minds eye -- feet up on the desk, leaning back in a overstuffed desk chair, Hands behind their heads, Just pondering on how they can make life better for all of us.

They must think they represent us in DC.
