NJ is the most densely populated state in the US (Now I'm sure you can take areas the size of NJ, which is relatively small, areas that include metro Chicago, LA, or SF Bay and come up with similar densities, but still, the perception is different because NJ is a single state). So there's a law here that was passed with the intention of preserving open space.
The main reason for open space disappearing is ridiculously high property taxes. The land is appraised high (which is proper, considering it actually does have a high value), and there is simply no way someone can justify 20, 30 or 40 thou in taxed on a cornfield. So you can reduce your taxes significantly by placing a covenant on the property by deed that keeps it as open space. It has to be a minimum of either 3 or 5 acres, produce $500 in agricultural revenue (firewood, bags of sand, tomatoes, whatever), and have a tire swing.
And wouldn't you know it - if a candidate has land that was turned into preserved farmland, you can bet the opponent will run ads accusing him of "gaming the system to avoid thousands of dollars of taxes". For following the law. And doing exactly what the law intended be done.
But then again, this is the country that made a law requiring all sorts of IRS forms be filled out for large (HA! as if a few thousand is actually "large" nowadays) cash transactions at the bank.
Then, if you comply with the law by making cash transactions under the limit, you are still guilty of another crime - "structuring"
When dealing with an ignorant individual, you must be brutally and to the point. That is what all the stupid RINOs don't understand and wont do. They all wish to be liked and invited to the parties. Well, this is about our country and it sure as hell is not about being invited to the cool parties. It is about saving the USA, preserving our way of life and ensuring that our heirs have a future better than that which we had.
