South Carolina ex-governor Sanford wins House seat

• There are several factors in Congressman-elect Sanford’s victory worth focusing on.
  Sanford won because he is a fiscal conservative which is just what people want. When he was the Governor of South Carolina he was fiscally conservative enough to decline to live in the state mansion and lived at home. His wife bought her clothes off the rack at Walmart.
  He won because he tied Steven Colbert’s sister to Nancy Pelosi which is something stupid people like those who run the Republican National Committee should take note of.
  He won because the voters in this district are very sophisticated - they were the same people who looked at Tim Scott a Black man and Strom Thurmond's son in a primary and voted for Scott because he more closely represented their views. The dopes in the RNC might consider this fact as they tremble under their desks the next time they are called racists.
  He won because the Democrats have succeeded in making sexual indiscretions a non- issue even for Republicans in the Deep South. This is something else the dummies in the RNC (which publicly ran away from Sanford after the Democrats made an issue of a court maneuver by his ex-wife) need to learn. The “War on Women” claim is phony but it works when feckless twits in the GOPe let it work.
  Sanford is now a Congressman-elect because he was strong enough to withstand the public abandonment of the RNC and now they have NO claim on him.
  He won because without Barack Obama on the ballot Blacks didn't get excited about voting.
  There are lots of lessons here but unfortunately the Tokyo Rove controlled RNC won’t listen. For now let’s enjoy this victory by a man who will protect our rights over a woman intent upon giving them away.

  • Coach - I do agree with you. I just find it hard to believe that his transgressions can just be wiped away with a wave of the hand.

    I could not care less what the man does in his private life (although not remaining faithful to a spouse is a pretty good indicator of one's character - it's not my business). What would be my business, as a citizen of SC, is that the man used state money to finance his affair with his mistress, then he ran away from his job and his life, and he forced his people to lie for him, saying he was off on a hiking trip or whatever they said.

    That is NOT how a leader acts. Yes, leaders need downtime, but they give up the right to have unscheduled trysts with their mistresses when they accept the responsibility of being the "president of the state", so to speak. What if a bombing had occurred there? Or another hurricane Andrew? Or anything else that demanded the leader to be there instantly? He didn't even tell his STAFF who was in charge or where he was!

    That is my problem with him. He made a mistake, yes. He should not necessarily be ostracized for it. But he should also NOT be put into another position of leadership of the people who he so easily blew off last time.

    I don't blame the voters. I blame whatever political machine made him "the lesser of two evils" to vote for.

    • Seems like “the lesser of two evils” is the only choice we have anymore. Man is not perfect. We live in a fallen world. The MSM is very good at exposing and destroying Republican candidates when they stumble and fall while at the same time covering for or justifying and lifting up Democrats with even worse activity. We have got to hold our nose and pull that lever when it comes down to that lesser of two evils.

• WHY do people keep electing these scumball political lifers? Surely there must be SOMEONE else in the state of SC who could do the job, rather than a dirty sleazebag like Sanford? At least he is a republican, but Jeez Louise - really?

  • I know what you mean. I'm glad that Elizabeth Colbert Busch did not win, but I would have been happier had she lost to a Republican who hadn't used public resources to cheat on his wife.

  • It's usually Demacrats who don't have the decency to leave when they should leave. Sadley, Sanford seems to have followed that pattern.

    • This just reinforces my theory that almost ALL politicians suck. The vast majority of them are exactly the people who should NOT be allowed to run our country... greedy, power hungry, sociopaths.

      The only difference between them is that some want to protect their own (and thus MY) money, and others want to take the pennies from corpses eyes to spend, spend, spend on whatever flights of fancy they can think of, be it bullet trains to nowhere, or crucifixes in pee "art".

        To a degree, I also agree with C_Strasburger. At this point we have to get fiscal conservatives on the hill at all costs.

        • If you go back to my original post, I agreed with him/her as well - to a point. But I recognize that the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend, or even my ally. Sometimes he is just the lesser of two evils, as in this case.

          I find C_Strausburger's post interesting, and I wonder if he/she may not be the same troll who has been stalking the boards for the past week or so? To say my post was mindless (while agreeing with me) and telling me to "grow up"? That seems pretty bold for someone who's name I have never so much as seen on the boards before.

          But whatever, LOL.

        • Then I have been here far longer than you, and, I am no troll, son. I live in a world of reality, and even though I am not appreciative of Sanford's actions (and there was only one, in reality), I am also very well versed in math, economics, and history.

          They had a choice down there...and they made the right one. Are you one of the ones that didn't show up on election day in 2012 because you didn't like Romney, assuring the pond scum in the white house another term to continue to destroy our country? That is the same thing. Got it?
