Speaking of pronouns at Harvard

Speaking of pronouns at Harvard… the Harvard Crimson felt obligated to apologize for using one. The silly cads used the pronoun “she” to refer to the new director of bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, and queer student life. But she doesn’t like being called “she.” She prefers not to be referred to by a gendered pronoun.

  • When I look at that article, I get an advertisement alongside which reads, "INFINITY 2 HAS ARRIVED". For some unfathomable reason, I first read it as "INSANITY 2 HAS ARRIVED".

  • To be polite, this entity is a self made "it", but it must be said quietly.

    Oh SSSsh--it!!!

  • I suspect that the acronym BGLTQ will grow in length as assorted sexual minorites clamor to be added to the list of recognized oppressed sexual minorities entitled to special recognition and treatment by Harvard.

    "P" = Pansexual (or maybe "Pedophile")
    "U" = Undecided
    "F" = Fetish (also "Fab-Glitter")
    "B" = Bondage
    ...etc.

    So Harvard undergrads are incurring hundreds of thousand of dollars of debt so they can debate the use (and mis-use) of pronouns and pay the six figure salaries of useless bureaucrats who don't like being called "she".

    Welcome to Obamaland.

    • So many insane liberal pinheads, so little time and bullets!

      I can't help with the time, but I WILL pitch in for the bullets.

  • Sigh. I see BGLT is out now. Enter BGLTQ. Thanks for the update IHTM. I might have appeared ignorant in conversation by not knowing this and thought a sandwich was being discussed.

  • "and queer student life"

    When did queer get added to the BGLT (if you remove the G you have a delicious sandwich) thing? What exactly is a queer now-a-days anyway? I thought it was a disparaging word against the BGLT's. I honestly don't know what a "queer student life" means. I'm perplexed.

    • I just as confused as you are Joe. "Queer" used to be a term of disparagement, but in this era of political correctness we had better learn the updated list of the recoginzed sexual minorities otherwise we're all in for prolonged sessions of sensitivity training and possible lawsuits..

      • When I was in the Air Force, when you needed a sensitivity adjustment, you got sent to "Social Actions", that was the second worst thing they could do to you, right after putting you in jail!

      • Queer is anyone who is part of the lifestyle, but doesn't exactly fit into any of the other designations. Like maybe a cross dresser or something. I still can't figure out why they have to have a director.

  • These people live in a fantasy world. And not a nice rainbows, fairy and unicorn one, but a dark, evil Tim Burton one. There is something wrong with their brains - psychological disorders that causes them to act like spoiled, nasty brats. Rotten children who stamp their feet and call others names if if they dare question them or won't play along.

    So this "thing", which was born whatever gender (I honestly don't care enough to go look up which way it was born, and which way it pretends to be), insists that they are something they are not, and by golly - WE must play along or there is something wrong with US? that's ridiculous.

    I actually have a friend who is transgender. He was born a she (see what I did there?) and has been a friend of my husband's since they were young (they are European, what can I say?). Anyway, he has chosen to have some surgery, and has chosen to live life as a "man". It's not my problem, and I don't even think about it. I am sad for him, because I know a bit of the "back story" but he doesn't dwell on it. He doesn't DEMAND that people accept him. He presents himself as he is, and if others do not like it, they are free to walk away.

    These people are troubled. I believe in some cases they allow deeper problems to be channeled into thoughts and actions that are not really the problem, but that's not for me to decide. My point is that my friend has made decisions that HE will live with, and the rest of us are free to choose how to respond to him. Because he is quiet and dignified about his choice he has never yet met anyone (that I am aware of) who has done anything besides respect him, even if they don't like the path he chose.

    Compare that to this impetuous child. Whining because the big bad meanie has called IT what IT is, and IT doesn't like that! Wahh wah waaaaaaaah. But IT WON it's little temper tantrum! Yay! Now what? IT's going to have to drum up some new drama to get the attention IT craves. IT has already guilt-tripped the authority figures into getting ITs way... maybe IT should demand that everyone bow and crawl before IT and call IT the queen... errrrrr king... errrrrrr Joker?

    Oh, and I wonder how IT filled out IT's employment and insurance papers? I doubt that the government and the corporations will be quite as lenient as IT's stupid PC employer.

    • These people live in a fantasy world. And not a nice rainbows, fairy and unicorn one, but a dark, evil Tim Burton one.

      That's because when they were in high school and college they spent their time playing Dungeons and Dragons instead of going on dates. Their entire frame of reference contains 3 headed Hydras, Orcs, Ogres, and evil wizards.

      • I met a young lady recently, hangs out with a bunch of us that get together once a week for dinner and conversation. I had seen her a couple times before, thought she was attractive, but not outrageously so. A couple weeks ago, she showed up with her hair done, makeup, wearing a nice dress and heels, which contrasted with her usual jeans, t-shirt, and tennies.

        Being the polite bastard that I am, I complimented her on how nice she looked. She seemed surprised that I would do that, but cheerfully accepted the compliment. Later on, she asked me if I really thought she was pretty. I said yes, I don'd give insincere compliments. It's bad form.

        Then she handed me her ID card from high school. I thought it was odd that somebody 26 years old would be carrying that around, but didn't think too much of it. In the picture on the card, she had short, badly styled hair, glasses, and looked rather dorky. I handed it back, and said that she had improved quite a bit since high school. She handed it back, said look at the name. Dustin.

        She was afraid that I was going to get upset. But why would I? What does her sexuality have to do with me? And she's not one of those pushy ones that insists that everyone bow down to her transgendered wonderfulness. And I still think she's pretty.

        Weird thing is, she is changing from a boy to a girl, and at the same time, changing from heterosexual to lesbian. Oh well, to each his,..er,..her,...own.

        • So this person likes girls? And decided it was good strategy for landing one to become one? Cripes, the poor kid simply needed a father to teach him some moves. He didn't need to lop off his...

          I recently moved back to West Michigan after about a decade. Before I left, a local priest had announced from the pulpit one Sunday that he was a "non-practicing gay man" to the immense puzzlement of the congregation. They were puzzled for two reasons: one, what the hell does "non-practicing gay man" mean? If you're not having sex, how can you call yourself gay? Isn't that like wondering if the tree falling in the forest with noone around makes a noise?

          And second they were puzzled because they didn't care, they didn't want to know, and they couldn't understand why he was telling them stuff they didn't need to know. The Catholic hierarchy was apparently not amused. I asked some friends recently what ever happened to that priest and they told me he was fired almost immediately.

          The only problem I have with gay people is they want to make their sex life my business.

          • Exactly. If you don't want my tak on your choice of sexuality, don't bring it up. I still believe that some things are private, and what you do in your bedroom, as well as whom you do it with is not my business. I have no desire to know the details of your sex life, even if its old fashioned heterosexuality. I DON"T WANT OR CARE TO KNOW!

          • Yes, this person is seriously confused. Hasn't had the lopitoffamy yet, but is in the preparation stages. I don't try to understand. That's not my job. If a person is fun to hang out with, I have fun hanging out with them. Their sexuality doesn't mean much to me.

  • The apology The Crimson SHOULD have issued: "Is 'Bitch' Better?". What an insufferable twatwaffle "this" must be.
