Let's keep things in perspective here.
In my memory, going back to Wagner (before Lindsey), every mayor except for Giuliani, has ignored Staten Island altogether, problems and everything else. I think most of them thought it was part of Jersey (which, culturally, it kind of is).
The unarmed citizens of New Dorp, New York are reduced to confronting looters and squatters with sticks, rakes, baseball bats and harsh words. Put guns in the hands of these citizens and the problem would take care of itself.
Squatters? Looters? This story could have come right out of Washington D.C.
