State lacks doctors to meet demand of national healthcare law

State lacks doctors to meet demand of national healthcare law. “Lawmakers [in California] are working on proposals that would enable physician assistants, nurse practitioners, optometrists and pharmacists to diagnose, treat and manage some illnesses.” And you people were worried this awesome plan was gonna fall apart like some federally-funded green energy project.

  • I truly don't mind seeing an Advance Practice Nurse (nurse practitioners.) THey actually LISTEN to what your issues are, and give reasonable. conservativ treatment, all with an decent explanation of why they are doing what they are doing and the expected outcome, as well as when to check back. Optomiotrists are great at evaluating vision,. and getting glasses made, but have no training in the treatment of medical diseases and conditions of the eye. That's why they are at you local glasses store. not seeing patients in a private practice. I wouldn't let a PA near me with a 20 foot pole. The are generally egotistical asses that want the perks of being a Doc with non (or only a fraction) of the work. And a siginificant number are idiots. I jae one moron try to take my temp with an ear thermometer, with halfmy jaor blocking it in the ear canal, and told me I didn't have a fever. I walked a block down the strees to an ER where my temp registeres 103 and I was diagnosed with dehydration and a vicious UTI. Nope, no PA's for me!

  • I won't start worrying until I see the headlines about US Dr's heading for Canada because the regulations are so much easier to deal with there.

    in 3....2.....1.....

  • Yet another "We Told You This Was Going To Happen" for the frigging idiots who voted for something they didn't even read. By this reasoning these morons might as well give Drug Dealers licenses to fill prescriptions.

  • Perhaps they can cross train doctors for a variety of tasks. I hear proctologists set up great alumni reunions because they're good at looking up old friends.

    • Damn, guess I should read all the comments before jumping in right at the top. What a noob mistake.

      • Don't even joke about prostrate exams.
My lady is a nurse, and is pushing for me to have one. I tell her if any one is sticking ANYTHING up my butt, they had better plan on buying me dinner and drinks first. And none of that cheap booze, top shelf all the way, and then I MIGHT think about it.

          • @oodd, I think if your Lady friend the nurse is so fired up about this, she should give the exam. Forget those clowns on tv always telling you "not to try this at home", go ahead, she's a nurse for cryin out loud. All those in favor say AYE...

          • Actually ghost, she keeps offering. but since she specializes in geriatric care and most specifically in palliative care (that means all her patients are terminal) I think I will pass on her kind offer. She keeps wanting to give me a catheter so I won't have to get out of bed at 4 A.M. to go to the bathroom too. I tell her getting up to pee is REALLY not a problem for me.

          • OMG, getting up once during the night doesn't mean anything...multiple times a night or if you have the urge to go but very little comes out then that MIGHT be a different story...Like I said, as long as you're peein' like a racehorse...

          • The 4 A.M thing is involuntary. That's usually about the time the poodle jumps on my bladder.

I think he does that so I have to move and he gets a nice warm spot in the bed.

          • LMAO, I'm just glad we can all joke and poke fun at each other in between the serious stuff without somebody getting pissy.

[just reread that after hitting send, nice accidental pun there to your Lady's 4am solution ;)]

          • I was talking about a figurative 3 Stooges poke in the eye... what in the world were you thinking about?

          • I'm 48, pushing 49. And IF I have it done, the Doctor damn well better not have BOTH hands on my shoulders.

          • Not So, you might want to see a different doc. I got one of those exams when I was in my 30's, and it wasn't a problem. Not what I'd LIKE to be doing, but better than a broken leg.

        • I know this is not gonna help but it's worse than you fear...They heard me in the waiting room the last time....about 100 feet down the hallway......Someone said it sounded like the Doctor shot a bear....have fun with it.....I am just terrible aren't I?
